Delamotte Blanc de Blancs NV Champagne

Founded in 1760 by vineyard owner François Delamotte, Champagne Delamotte is the fifth oldest house in the champagne region. Champagne Delamotte has been established in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for over 250 years, and still houses its cellars and offices today. The house has passed through many generations and even changed name at one point but was re-established as Delamotte in the late 1940’s when it came into the hands of the de Nonancourt family. It was under the ownership of one of the most legendary figures in the Champagne industry, Bernard de Nonancourt, until 1988. At this point Laurent-Perrier took over the management of Champagne Delamotte which was also joined officially with the prestigious Champagne Salon.

Vineyards sourced only from the Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger and Cramant, Delamotte is unlike any other house. The grapes rarely ripen fully this far north and the resulting wines are light with searing acidity. Champagne Delamotte wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and spend 4 to 5 years on the less prior to riddling and disgorgement. This length of time on the lees allows Delamotte Blanc de Blancs to mellow both structurally and aromatically creating unique flavours. Low dosage is added to the wines as Delamotte favours allowing the vineyards to express themselves, creating mineral style wines. Only 10% of reserves wines are used and only 10,000 bottles are produced annually.

Delamotte Blanc de Blancs NV is high in ‘chalkiness’, however it’s rich and delicate. On the nose, aromas of citrus with hints of ginger. On the palate a creamy mousse with an abundance of citrus and vanilla leading to a long finish with a great acidity.

Grape Varieties: 100% Chardonnay

“Mostly 2012 with 25% reserve (2010 and 2011).
Wonderfully fragrant - smells white and pure but there are delicate notes of yeasty autolysis and scented lemons and white peach. Perfect balance here, finesse and elegance and no lack of flavour intensity and length. Fine and persistent mousse. (JH)”,

“One third of each, Le Mesnil, Cramant and Oger, make up for the lovely smoky-mineral yet pure fruity essence of Delamotte non-vintage blanc de blancs. Lemon curd, butter, pastry and charred wood nuances on top of a highly mineral backbone. Lean, long and mouth-watering as it should be.”,

“(8 g/l dosage): Light yellow. Mineral-tinged peach, melon and pear aromas display excellent clarity, picking up a subtle floral quality with aeration. Supple and seamless on the palate, offering vivid honeydew and pit fruit flavors accented by a vibrant lemon zest quality. Finishes very long, silky and precise, with an echo of juicy melon and strong mineral lift.”,

“Magnum. Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Based on the 2008 vintage, disgorged June 2013, dosage < 7 g/l. Subtle but distinctive – delicately lemon and floral, with a just a hint of sage - and very gently creamy with the merest hint of yeastiness. Well defined and beautifully fresh. Small, tight bubbles. Lots of tension but plenty of refined citrus, too. Elegant, very long with a slight grip that adds to the length. (JH)”
