Louis Roederer Brut Vintage 2009 Champagne

More vintages: 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008Louis Roederer, the largest independent, family-managed champagne maker is the fortunate proprietor to 235 hectares of sublimely located vineyards, supplying 70% of its needs for an annual production of 3 million bottles. Uniquely, after 10 years of experimentation, they are beginning to witness the benefits of a biodynamically managed vineyard. Chef de Cave, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon is particular about Louis Roederer's craft; "We don't blend, we combine," he says. "I love art, and like a great painter we add colour rather than blending."

Fascinated by the aromatic diversity of Pinot Noir in Champagne, Louis Roederer uses the structure and power of the Pinot Noir grapes from the Montagne de Reims to create its Brut Vintage. Exposed to the north-east, the grapes mature more slowly. The character of this great wine intensifies and becomes more refined through aging in wood and time. Thirty percent of the wine is matured in oak casks and Brut vintage is matured for at least four years in the cellars and rested for six months after disgorgement to finish it perfectly. 2009 was a continental, sunny year with a real winter that was very cold and dry followed by a glorious sun-filled summer and almost no rain in August and September.

"2009 was incomparable in terms of quality and produced consistent, fresh, crunchy grapes. The wines are more Burgundian in character in hot years and are characterized by a gentle freshness and a pure expression of their terroir." Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master.

A ravishing bouquet on the noise which is generous and deep dominated by the red fruits that dominate the blend. Orchard fruits on the palate combine with soft mineral qualities. With age, this vintage is certain to develop and increase in structure.

Grape Varieties: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay

Louis Roederer Brut Vintage
Apr 2017
“Deep flavoured and exciting. Relatively rich (because of the vintage presumably) but with a great array of flavours. Long. A really satisfying drink. Lots to enjoy. Though not as long as the Pol Roger 2008.”
Jun 2016
“Discreetly fruity nose with red fruit dominance, soft spicy and honeyed tones. Up-front palate with round body and big, soft mousse. Lovely twist of acidity at the end.”
