Ruinart Rosé NV Champagne

The longest-established Champagne house of all, Ruinart has an affinity with chardonnay's freshness, finesse and elegance and all of its finest cuvées lead with this variety, even its prestige rosé. "We hate oxygen!" declares Frederic Panaïotis, Chef de Cave; Ruinart use a pneumatic press to guard the juice against oxidation and nitrogen gas to protect the wine at every production stage. They are also adverse to oak; vinification only takes place in stainless steel. This meticulous attention to detail along with the distinctive rounded bottles, give Ruinart its well deserved reputation. Ruinart's crayeres were dug by hand - the deepest measuring 38 meters in height beneath the vault - and their numerous tunnels criss-cross over a length of more than eight kilometres.

Ruinart Rosé is blended from a base of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with most of the grapes from Premiers Crus and 20% to 25% from reserve wines from the previous two years. The 45% Chardonnay in the blend originates from the Cote des Blancs and Montagne de Reims and the 55% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne vineyards. Of the Pinot Noir some 10% is fermented separately to make red wine and this is added back to the blend before the second in bottle fermentation.

Delicate pink in colour with slight orange reflections. On the nose is fresh and has hints of tropical fruits and strawberries and when you taste it you get a full palate of wild berries including raspberries, cherries and strawberries. The champagne has an abundance of fresh fruits and balanced acidity.

“Good strong pink colour with lots of very fine bubbles. On first sniff you get a big strawberry festival with hints of creamy pastry. On the taste you get other red fruits like cranberry and apple and raspberry and that hint of creamy custard and pastry. Good balance of soft acidity and slight roundness from its dosage. Great value very easy to drink this.”

“Dosage 9 g/l. 55% Pinot Noir (of which 19% is red wine), 45% Chardonnay. Three to four years on lees.
Simple red fruit nose, chewy texture with a refreshing finish. Less substance and grain than the Veuve Clicquot rosé. (RH)”

“Deep bright cherry red colour. Clean, primary fruity nose of cherries and strawberry jam with attractive gunpowder notes. Rich, round, sweet fruity palate, delivers what the nose promises. Deep berried style but beautifully in absence of any excess tannin.”

“Very attractive, bright and fragrant red fruits on the nose here. This has a wealth of fresh yeasty characters, fresh pastry and bread dough, plus red fruits, pink grapefruit, and some floral notes too. The palate has a strong nectarine and light cherry flavor thread. Chardonnay has a lot to say here; the texture is creamy and the balance right on the money. Drink now.”

“(roughly 55% pinot noir and 45% chardonnay; LAHLF): Light orange. Red berries, potpourri, toasty lees and orange peel on the highly fragrant nose. Lively and precise, with very good focus to its wild red berry and floral pastille flavors. The orange note comes back strong on the long, penetrating finish, which features a sweet raspberry quality.”

“This attractive wine is fresh and fruity, with raspberry flavors and a red cherry-skin edge of tannins. It is full and creamy, with a soft, ripe aftertaste. The bottling is ready to drink.”
