Vazart-Coquart Blanc de Blancs Extra-Brut NV Champagne

Created and established by Jean-Pierre Vazart’s grandparents in the 19th Century, Champagne Vazart-Coquart is a family-owned Champagne House. Jean-Pierre, Grandson of Camille Vazart, continues to produce Champagne in Chouilly, Cote des Blancs and has done so since becoming the owner in 2005 after taking over from his father Jacques. The single estate of 11 hectares is based in Grand Cru village of Chouilly and is one of only 17 Grand Cru top communes in Champagne. The House is situated along the high street of Chouilly and only since 1954 begun to develop into a dynamic wine-producing estate.

Due to its location in the Côte des Blancs, Vazart-Coquart grow mainly Chardonnay grapes, Pinot Noir is also part of the House production and is used in some of the cuveés. No barrel fermentation is conducted, by using stainless steel the House believe that this preserves the mineral delicacy. Vazart-Coquart Blanc de Blancs is a elegant Chardonnay Champagne that contains a low dosage of 2.5 g/L and is aged for four years on the lees. Limited quantities are produced each year, with only a maximum 3,000 bottles proposed each year.

This Blanc des Blancs is a light yellow colour with a fine stream of bubbles, on the nose aromas of fresh lemon and slight hazelnut hints. On the palate a smooth mousse with a continued citrus fruits theme. This Blanc de Blancs Extra-Brut is full of light zesty lemon notes and this is continued throughout the finish.

“100% Chardonnay. Stainless steel. Base 2009 plus 30% reserve from the ‘solera’ begun in 1982. Bottled April 2010, disgorged December 2013, 44 months on lees. Dosage 3 g/l.
Nervy nose with a hint of putty. Firm impact on the palate but not aggressive, not aggressively dry. Wonderfully interesting for the price. Very satisfying finish.”
