Description & Technical Information
-
In 2003, the most famous name in wine turned their attention to the sparkling variety, founding Champagne Barons de Rothschild. The three Rothschild cousins Baron Benjamin, Baron Eric and Baroness Philippine came together with a single ambition: to combine the best terroirs with their know-how and finally add champagne to Rothschild’s huge portfolio of wines. Experiencing incredible early growth, the House managed to secure contracts to an impressive 72 hectares of vineyard, with 50% located in Grand Cru rated Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Premier Cru rated Vertus. With their winery, Chateau Rothschild, and the majority of their vineyards located in the Côte des Blancs, the house-style is Chardonnay focused.
Weather: The 2012 weather has been hallmarked by many as very challenging but has created some stunning Champagne. Relatively low yields due to various weather conditions throughout the year. The winter months brought some frosts and hail which damaged the early stages of bud burst. August and September were very warm and this helped rescue and give the grapes a stunning maturity.

“The merest hint of vanilla insinuates itself on the creamy nose that has overtones of shortbread. The palate comes with beautiful concentration, a certain statuesque sleekness and vividly fresh but very fine mousse. There is a lovely briskness at its core, softened by gentle autolysis and beautiful, chalky depth. This has stature and exquisite balance.”
