Champagne Bruno Paillard Overview
+
Bruno Paillard's vintage cuvée is made exclusively from the first pressing of the grapes (the purest juice) and presents a harmonious balance between generous aromas of almonds, fresh fruits and spicy notes. After eight years ageing on the lees and twelve months post-disgorgement, this is a champagne to watch for the future. Each vintage of Bruno Paillard Assemblage features a different painting on the label, expressing the story of the year in a contemporary and visual way. The 2008 label was designed by Bang Hai Ja, illustrating the powerful vivacity of 2008 alongside the theme: "Energy". Just 1,000 magnums of Bruno Paillard Vintage Assemblage 2008 were produced.

Weather: After a rainy but mild winter without any prolonged cold spells, spring arrived with some very localised frosts. Cool weather returned in June and the infrequent sunshine prolonged the feeling of freshness. The spring to autumn weather was bright with sunny spells and the long, hot days and cool nights during September gave the grapes excellent acidity during the harvest period. The 2008 vintage is fast emerging as one of the best since the renowned and now-legendary 2002.

News Article: Bruno Paillard Vintage Assemblage 2008 placed seventh in our comprehensive blind tasting of 2008s in June 2017. Read the full write-up here.

“Bruno Paillard's citrus-colored 2008 Brut Assemblage Millésimé is a lean and lively, mineral palate-cleanser. It's a love-me-or-leave me cuvée comprised of 42% Chardonnay, 42% Pinot Noir and 16% Pinot Meunier, selected from ten of the best terroirs the company is cultivating. During seven years in the winery, this intense and chalky, energetically fresh and silky textured Champagne has developed a gorgeous mix of white, red and yellow fruits that are quite prominent at the moment. There are lemon and grapefruit notes, as well as marzipan, floral and chalky mineral flavors. Disgorged in 2015 with five grams of dosage and equipped with a beautiful label from the Korean artist Bang Hai Ja, the 2008 is still a bit yeasty and reductive on the nose, and austerely dry on the palate. But it is still full of drive and energy. This is Champagne for wine freaks or thirsty throats. It will gain complexity over the next decade.”

“Vivid yellow-gold. Musky aromas of pear skin, mace, honeysuckle and toasty lees are complicated by a buttery nuance. Round, sappy and ripe, with a spicy aspect to its flavors of ripe citrus and orchard fruits, brioche and candied ginger. Shows very good clarity and energy on the finish, leaving mineral and floral notes behind. Disgorged in March, 2012”

“Very dry, this is a crisp, steely and structured wine, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that still tastes young. A blend made from nine different villages, it is so fresh and fruity with its white and citrus fruits, sliced apples and lemon juice. A zesty character at the back gives it a lively aftertaste.”
