Description & Technical Information
-
After many years ageing in the unique and ancient Crayères acquired by its founder Charles Heidsieck, Blanc de Blancs reveals itself as a champagne poised between elegance and complexity, with a smooth texture and great length on the palate. Extended ageing on the lees has unlocked the full potential of their aromas. Each vintage has its own signature, its own generous tone.

Weather: A year that proved satisfactory for many winemakers, both in quality and quantity. Following a cold, rainy spring, the return of the sun and warmer temperatures fostered good growth of the vines. The harvest in early October offered up bunches of shimmering golden Chardonnay grapes.

This champagne is part of Charles Heidsieck Collection Crayeres, a second late release of vintages direct from their cellars in Reims in October 2018. The releases are very limited quantities and a perfect chance to buy and enjoy champagne with age in its very best condition; just 60 bottles have been released worldwide.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: Grand Cru | Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger & 1er Cru Vertus
Grape Varieties: 100% Chardonnay
Cellared: 1980
Disgorged: 1988
Drink: Now to 2030+

Tasting Note: The nose begins with aromas of hot flint. This is followed by a bouquet of toasted and smoky notes, along with vegetal fragrances that provide a subtle crispness. The generous, full- odied mouthfeel offers mineral flavours. Full-bodied and dry sensations alternate to provide a surprising tautness.

“Deep straw gold. Smoky and Gewurzy. Smells like an Alto Adige wine – fresh and fruity – not really like a champagne. Curious! There’s a certain sweetness.”
