Charles Heidsieck's prestige cuvée is a blend of pure Chardonnay from just five different Crus: Avize for verve and minerality; Cramant for complexity and ageability; Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for balance; Oger for creaminess and weight; and Vertus for floral freshness. An absolute masterpiece from the Côte des Blancs, this cuvée spends more than fifteen years maturing in the heart of Charles Heidsieck's two-thousand-year-old chalk cellars. Such an outstanding creation deserves an exceptional case: the gift box, which mirrors the curves of the crayères cellars after which it is named (Blanc des Millénaires, or 'White of Millenia'), echoes the nobility of this location where nothing counts except time itself.

Weather: The 1995 harvest was a large crop and shared similar characteristics with the renowned 1998. Following four consecutive years of tough growing conditions, 1995 came as a huge relief to the region - the first universally declared vintage since 1990. The summer was mainly hot, with some showers a few weeks before the harvest. Now, over twenty years since bottling, champagne from 1995 are starting to show flavours of incredibly complex, rich and concentrated fruits.

Tasting Note: A rich golden colour, the bouquet expresses buttery and vanilla aromas. The palate is rich and complex with notes of pineapple and ripe white fruit flavour. This tastes surprisingly young, displaying all the characteristics of a mature Chardonnay and has incredible potential for ageing. Simply exceptional! Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millénaires 1995 is a seriously voluptuous champagne.

“Disgorged 2015. Daniel Thibault was so confident of the quality and longevity of this wine that he made 10 times the amount his boss suggested (on the basis that presidents of champagne companies change much more frequently than chefs de cave). Very little bottle variation apparently. Some of the vast lots are disgorged every year in summer.
Still greenish gold. Still lots of freshness on the nose. Noble and magnificent. Savoury and yet lacy. Full phenolic ripeness (a bit more than 2004, which is currently embargoed). Dances on the palate. Lovely, very lightly toasty, mature Chardonnay flavours but definitely tight-knit champagne not burgundy! So clean.
