Champagne Charles Heidsieck Overview
+
After many years ageing in the unique and ancient Crayères acquired by its founder Charles Heidsieck, Brut Millésime reveals itself as a champagne poised between elegance and complexity, with a smooth texture and great length on the palate. Extended ageing on the lees has unlocked the full potential of their aromas. Each vintage has its own signature, its own generous tone.

In 1978, Daniel Thibault, the emblematic Cellar Master and well-known personality of modern Champagne, took charge of devising an exceptional vintage with more “explosive” and more pronounced aromas than the “standard version” of the same vintage. The very first Champagne Charlie was launched with the 1979 vintage, and 5 harvests were to follow in 1978, 1981, 1982,1983 and 1985.

Weather: The results of the 1982 harvest are considered amongst the most exceptional ever witnessed in the history of Champagne. The grapes grew under steady weather conditions. The results were irreproachable and the harvest abundant! The grapes, all varieties included, were in excellent condition and stood out for their nesse, equilibrium and grandeur, hallmarks of a great year in Champagne.

This champagne is part of Charles Heidsieck Collection Crayeres, a second late release of vintages direct from their cellars in Reims in December 2017. The releases are very limited quantities and a perfect chance to buy and enjoy champagne with age in its very best condition; just 240 magnums have been released. The champagnes can be ordered now and are currently shipping; available to deliver early January 2018. We have 12 magnums available.

Tasting Note: A deep gold colour with tiny delicate bubbles. This 1982 is still very fresh on the palate and on the nose this shines through with orange and caramel. Mushrooms, tobacco, mocha and cinammon are present and are sustained right through to the finish. For a wine 30+ years old has aged superbly.
