Description & Technical Information
-
Founded in 1760 by vineyard owner François Delamotte, Champagne Delamotte is the fifth oldest producer in the region. The House has passed through many generations and even changed name at one point but was re-established as Delamotte in the late 1940s when it came into the hands of the de Nonancourt family. One of the most legendary figures in the Champagne industry, Bernard de Nonancourt managed Delamotte until 1988, when Champagne Laurent-Perrier purchased the business. After also buying the prestigious House of Champagne Salon in 1989, they officially joined the two companies and took over management of both. Next-door neighbours in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Champagne Salon and Champagne Delamotte remain sister companies today. Whilst Salon originates from the same twenty plots in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Delamotte now owns six hectares in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, including in Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger.
Delamotte Brut NV is the house's take on the 'classic' non-vintage Champagne. The Chardonnay grapes are sourced from grand cru vineyards in Champagne's top villages of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Oger. The Pinot Noir grapes are also from grand cru vineyards in Bouzy, Tours-sur-Marne and Ambonnay. The Pinot Meunier grapes are sourced from high quality vineyards in the Marne.
Tasting Note: Delamotte’s NV Brut wafts from the glass with notes of lemon oil, green apples, warm biscuits and smoke. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, bright and incisive, with a delicate core of fruit, tangy acids and a fine mousse. It’s a vibrant and understated wine that typifies the contemporary Delamotte style. - Tasted by William Kelley

However, in the years when Salon does not declare a vintage, Delamotte has the first claim to the Salon grapes.

“The latest release of Delamotte's NV Brut is especially charming, bursting with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, peach and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and enveloping, it's a fleshy, giving wine that's ample and pliant, with a pinpoint mousse and a nicely defined finish.”

“Quite impressive richness and gently toasty aromas on the nose here with almond, savory and sweet, bready autolysis notes. The palate has a fresh, succulent and smooth feel with soft, citrusy fruit flesh. Holds long. Drink now.”

“The purely fruity, classily withdrawing nose gives off lovely reductive gunpowdery and smoky whiffs. The fruit is mainly on the white-fruit side, with lemon, mirabelle plums and sweet peach contributing. The palate is silky but airy, with a lovely friendliness to it all. This is a great-value, quaffable Champagne, but it's by no means boring. The secret here is the 90% grand cru fruit. Dosage 8g/l”
