Description & Technical Information
-
Champagne Deutz owns 42 hectares of vineyards, which supply 20% of its grapes. The rest of the grapes are sourced from growers, many of whom have been working with Deutz for generations. Grapes are harvested from the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne, with over 80% of the grapes coming from vineyards that are rated Premier or Grand Cru.
Weather: The 2010 harvest was marked by a very cold winter with heavy frost patches. Weather improved in the spring and early summer months with cool and consistent temperatures. During August and September storms and humid conditions complicated the ripening process and much of the Pinot Noir being thin skinned largely succumbed to rot. Dom Perignon's vineyards in the Grand Cru village of Verzenay produced some outstanding Pinot Noir, but there weren't many examples of great PN from 2010. By contrast Chardonnay was super high quality, one of the best Chardonnay years within the last ten years.
Technical Information:

Tasting Note: A golden hue with a delicate bead and smooth effervescence. On the nose it shows a lovely complexity. Showing fruity notes of apricot, peach and plum accompanied by subtle floral and fresh almond aromas. On the palate the wine is broad and rich on entry. It wraps the palate in a silky, velvety lace. A perfect illustration of the 2010 vintage for Chardonnay. In its early youth, the potential for development and cellar-ageing of this fine “Blanc de Blancs” is evident.
Champagne Deutz Overview
+
Champagne Deutz, based in Ay, one of Champagne's historic and most renowned terriors. Founded in 1838 through the association of William Deutz with Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, both wine merchants from Aix-La-Chapelle. Their idea was that to make a great wine, first a great vineyard was needed, so they set off in the search for top local vineyards. Deutz soon became an international brand with Deutz and Geldermann using their knowledge and expertise of markets in their favour. Successors followed suit and tradition and through the 20th Century continued to purchase excellent vineyards in some of Champagnes best villages.
In 1993, Louis Roederer partnered with Deutz to save it from going into financial trouble, with Champagne Louis Roederer's help Deutz has increased production threefold and vastly improved methods and modernising cellars.
Currently under the leadership of Fabrice Rosset, Deutz still strives for excellence, terrior and sustainable viticulture.

“Deutz's newly released 2010 Brut Millésimé Amour de Deutz is very pretty, wafting from the glass with scents of citrus zest, white flowers, brioche and hazelnuts. Medium-bodied, pillowy and incisive, with a chiseled core of fruit, racy acids and a pinpoint mousse, it's a bright, fine-boned wine that represents a fine success in a rather challenging vintage.”

Decanter
“Classy wine filled with scents of citrus and brioche and hints of woodsmoke. The palate brings impressive soft bubbles and notes of citrus, praline and cream. Long, breezy and vivid finish with a persistent prickle of mousse. Kudos!”

Michael Edwards
“Wonderfully pure and fresh – delights that as in all truly great Champagnes, it should never lose, just acquiring an extra patina of vinosity till 2030…without doubt a great wine and nowadays, maybe, the leader in the non-oaked school of Champagne making. A real treat.”
