Deutz Hommage a William Deutz Parcelles d'Ay is created from two estate vineyards adjacent to the house itself in Ay: Cote Glaciere (1.92 ha)and Meurtet (2.42ha) The new creation by CEO Fabrice Rosset is a blend of 100% Pinot Noir and is a hommage to the founder of the house. The last time Champagne Deutz created a Blanc de Noirs was in 1975. Usually the wines from these two vineyards are blended into Deutz's other cuvees, but Michel Davesne was so impressed with it he decided to put it on it's own again. Only 6,000 bottles have been made and only 600 of them to be released in the UK.
Weather: The 2010 harvest was marked by a very cold winter with heavy frost patches. Weather improved in the spring and early summer months with cool and consistent temperatures. However, August and September experienced awful weather with plenty of storms and humid conditions complicating the ripening process.

Champagne Deutz Overview
+
Champagne Deutz, based in Ay, one of Champagne's historic and most renowned terriors. Founded in 1838 through the association of William Deutz with Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, both wine merchants from Aix-La-Chapelle. Their idea was that to make a great wine, first a great vineyard was needed, so they set off in the search for top local vineyards. Deutz soon became an international brand with Deutz and Geldermann using their knowledge and expertise of markets in their favour. Successors followed suit and tradition and through the 20th Century continued to purchase excellent vineyards in some of Champagnes best villages.
In 1993, Louis Roederer partnered with Deutz to save it from going into financial trouble, with Champagne Louis Roederer's help Deutz has increased production threefold and vastly improved methods and modernising cellars.
Currently under the leadership of Fabrice Rosset, Deutz still strives for excellence, terrior and sustainable viticulture.

“The 2010 William Deutz Parcelles d'Aÿ is the most tightly wound wine in this range. Green apple, lemon peel and white flowers add brightness, but on the palate the wine is extremely unyielding. I would prefer to cellar the 2010 for at least a few years. There is not much pleasure to be had today.”

Antonio Galloni
“Deutz’s 2010 Brut Parcelles d’Aÿ is a gorgeous 100% Pinot Noir that expresses the natural creaminess of Aÿ and the Duetz house style. Pear, citrus, baked apple, white flowers, almonds and light pastry notes are all vivid. The bright, finely sketched style imbues the 2010 with notable energy and a level of pure vibrancy that will make it hard to resist, even on the young side. ”

“The nose was very fresh, it had something of frosted plum and a green touch of conifer. The body is slender and one feels this still needs time to round out. Remembering Rosset’s words of the vicissitudes of 2010, this may take time to come out of its shell. But the quiet, understated house has started a fine new wine that will enable it to showcase its very own home turf and history in the coming years.”
