Founded in 1986. Dhondt Grellet's focus on biodynamic farming has translated into vivid champagnes from great parcels across the Côte des Blancs. The domaine is 6ha of Grand Cru and 1er Cru vines, with an average age of 40 years. A family run business, their son Adrien is now at the helm, together with his sister Alice. Inspired by the great white winemakers of Burgundy, Adrien is taking his family’s wines to another level, focusing on chardonnay and terroir. The quality of Adrien’s cuvées was recognized when he was voted Winemaker of the Year 2017 in the Trophées Champenois.
This NV Blanc de Blancs is all from two vineyard parcels in the top Grand Cru Village of Cramant with the average vine age over 55 years old. The wine is fermented in older oak barrels and partially go through malolactic fermentation to soften the acids.

Champagne Dhondt Grellet Overview
+
In 1986, Eric Dhondt and Edith Grellet decided to stop selling off their grapes to negociants and started Dhondt-Grellet. Their focus on biodynamic farming has translated into vivid champagnes from great parcels across the Côte des Blancs. The domaine is around 6ha of Grand Cru and 1er Cru vines, with an average age of 40 years. Their son Adrien is now at the helm, together with his sister Alice. Inspired by the great white winemakers of Burgundy, Adrien is taking his family’s wines to another level, focusing on chardonnay and terroir. The quality of Adrien’s cuvées was recognised when he was voted Winemaker of the Year 2017 in the Trophées Champenois.

“The 2016-base rendition of Dhondt's NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Cramant was disgorged in January 2019 with a mere 1.5 grams per liter dosage, and it's showing very well indeed. Unwinding with a youthful bouquet of white flowers, minty orchard fruit, fino sherry and white currants, it's full-bodied, deep and muscular, with plenty of dry extract and a more tensile, incisive profile than its 2015-base predecessor, concluding with a searingly chalky finish.”

“This fine Cramant comes from La Garenne. Hence, feather-light with cool fruitiness. Really tightly-knit and focused fruitiness on the silky palate of purity and precision. Perfectly dosed at 2,5g/l. Truly fine with the terroir speaking loud and clear.”

“The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs emerges from 55-year-old vines in Cramant. It is a powerful wine, but also surprisingly austere and closed in on itself, as if all of the energy of old vines focused inwards. This release is based on 2016, with the addition of 30% reserve wines, done entirely in barrel. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2019.”
