Description & Technical Information

Dom Pérignon Rosé is only available as a vintage champagne and is only produced in exceptional years. Each vintage is a creation, singular and unique, that expresses both the character of the year, and is a tribute to Pinot Noir. To work with Pinot Noir continually requires excellence and humility and Dom Pérignon Rosé is the perfect balance of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Although it takes over ten years to reach the light of day, the colour of Dom Pérignon Rosé dares to express all the tension between youth and maturity, between exhibition and restraint.

Weather: 2008 was dominated by grey, overcast skies – an exception in a decade characterized by bold, generous sunshine. Spring and summer rought the same lack of sunlight and absence of high temperatures. It was September that saved the vintage, belatedly and miraculously. Just when the harvest was getting underway (on September 15), the weather conditions were finally perfect: blue skies and prolonged north-northeasterly winds. Picking was spread out over a long period in order to benefit from this positive turn of events. The grapes were riper than anyone dared hope, and had truly outstanding balance. The vines were in perfect health.

Tasting Note: Boldly fruity, boldly Dom Pérignon, there is flesh and richness to support the zingy drive and spicy extravagance. So slow-ageing that we can call it a prelude today, the wine shines with its sumptuous pure fruitiness and Pinot power deriving from red wine from Champs de Linotte plot in Hautvillers and Vauzelles in Aÿ. An intriguing melange of delicious sweet cherry fruit, floral tulip whiffs, blood orange, coffee and saffron. The palate is firmly structured and tight for the time being, speaking of longevity. Still, there is at the same time immediate elegance and charm to it on the lingering, dancing palate. - Tasted by Essi Avellan MW

“The 2008 may be the best rosé ever… Incredible depth of fruit. Three-dimensional element to the wine. This is so transparent and dynamic…really savoury, fresh and incredibly Pinot Noir like”

“What to expect from a Dom Pérignon Rosé from the super dynamic Richard Geoffroy - Vincent Chaperon duo? To expect the unexpected, I have learned. I love how Vincent calls the 2008, ’untamed, carnal and magnetic’. There is nothing shy to it even if the vintage normally comes across coolly restrained. “The 2008 Dom Pérignon Rosé is magnificent. Rich and deep in the glass, the 2008 offers up an exotic mélange of aromas and flavors. Sweet red cherry, mint, orange peel and rose petal all grace this beguiling beauty. Bright acids and a little less still red Pinot (21%) than in most recent editions yields a Rosé that is delicate and light on its feet, with less of the vinous intensity that marked vintages such as 2006. There is a classic feeling of austerity in the 2008 that is mesmerizing.”

“Offering up aromas of white flowers, red berries, toast and fresh pastry, Dom Pérignon Rosé 2008 is medium to full-bodied, tense and vibrant, with a vinous texture and sapid nuances”

Richard Juhlin
“The senses are overflowing with rich cocky broad-shouldered and loud chords in all sorts of colorful splendor”

Jancis Robinson MW
“Pale to mid salmon pink (much deeper than a typical Provence Rosé). There's some note that's mineral or iodine or oyster shell on the nose of this. Then we segue into something floral – rose petals? Even candied rose petals.”
