Description & Technical Information
-
For the first time in the history of the House, Dom Pérignon have released five consecutive vintages - 2002 to 2006 - all stunning and unique representations of their respective harvests. To celebrate, the House have released a unique six vintage case featuring the five consecutive vintages and a rare bottle of 1999 - exclusive to The Finest Bubble! Beautifully presented in two stunning three-bottle Dom Pérignon branded black wooden cases, this is an amazing opportunity to taste six of the best vintages of Dom Pérignon, the most famous prestige cuvée in Champagne.

Dom Pérignon 1999: An exquisite vintage that is now increasingly rare due to its age. Smokey and citrus flavours on the palate combine with a generous helping of fruit. Although perfect for drinking right now, the secondary flavours that develop as champagne matures are only just coming through - this is still capable of ageing well for many more years.

Dom Pérignon 2002: This one-of-a-kind vintage expresses all the power of grapes picked at the peak of their maturity, while going far beyond the character of the year, enhancing the natural richness and lending extra precision and depth. Widely recognised as the best Dom Pérignon on the market today.

Dom Pérignon 2003: A higher percentage of Pinot Noir grapes show through this broad and powerful palate. A vintage saved by the summer heat and described as "high in phenolics", this is a big champagne. Less elegant than 2002, but a great glass of Dom Pérignon.

Dom Pérignon 2004: A vintage that experienced very consistent weather throughout. Both the significant amount and the size of grape bunches contributed to a champagne that has an abundance of forward ripe fruit flavours and a refreshing balance of acidity.

Dom Pérignon 2005: The smallest harvest of Richard Geoffroy’s tenure with production 20-25% of the volume of 2004. The exceptional quality from selection ensures the 2005 is incredibly light: a champagne which evolves more on the palate as the flavours develop.

Dom Pérignon 2006: Beautifully balanced champagne that is already showing hallmarks of a superb vintage, with great richness and elegance. Similar weather conditions as 2002 and the longest harvest on record have created a wine full of complexity and creaminess.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: 100% Grand & Premier Cru
Grape Varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
Ageing: 8 years on the lees

Dom Pérignon Six Vintages Case includes six 75cl bottles as described, presented in two stunning three-bottle beautifully crafted and branded black wooden cases (as shown in the pictures on the left).

“Dom Pérignon 1999 - Served not blind immediately after 2002 through to 2006 (which were all served blind), so of course it seemed particularly beautiful. Pale creamy minerally savoury nose. Really lively and punchy. Some smokiness. A hint of honey. Very good bottle. ”

Antonio Galloni
“Dom Pérignon 1999 - These four vintages of Dom Pérignon provide a fascinating snapshot of how the house has performed in recent years. The 1999 Dom Pérignon is a little flabbier than the 2000. Smoke, toastiness, tar and ripe fruit emerge from the glass in a generous, expansive style. The 1999 offers more body than the 2000 but the aromas and flavors are less well-articulated. This is a relatively simple Dom Pérignon, yet the wine possesses outstanding balance and plenty of harmony. According to Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy the warm vintage also resulted in relatively high yields, and the low-acid style is most reminiscent of the 1976.”

Antonio Galloni
“Dom Pérignon 2002 - The 2002 Dom Pérignon speaks to opulence and intensity. Rich, layered and voluptuous in the glass, the 2002 shows off its flamboyant personality with flair. Butter, cooked apple and tropically-leaning fruits mesh together effortlessly. Interestingly, with time in the glass the 2002 gains in freshness and energy without losing its essential opulence. The elevated ripeness of the year gives the 2002 Dom Pérignon distinctly Puligny-Montrachet leaning inflections. Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy adds that August that year was hot and very dry. Rain towards the end of the month and into early September freshened the vines and accelerated the final phase of ripening. This is yet another fabulous showing from the 2002, which continues to cement its reputation as a truly epic Dom Pérignon.”

“Dom Pérignon 2002 - Tasted blind. Mid pale gold. Savour and some evolution. Lots of complexity on the nose – even some honeyed character on the palate. Hint of ginger. Tiny slightly lazy bubbles. More advanced bottle than some others? 2002?”
98/100
Antonio Galloni
“Dom Pérignon 2002 - Honey, almonds, butter, tropical fruit and brioche are some of the notes that emerge in the 2002 Dom Pérignon. Here the flavors are bold, rich and exotic, as they have always been, while the textural feel is one of pure exuberance. The 2002 remains dense, honeyed and totally voluptuous on the palate, with more than enough density to drink well for decades The style will always remain opulent to the core.”

Antonio Galloni
“Dom Pérignon 2003 - As always, the 2003 Dom Pérignon has a lot to say. Bold, powerful and intensely phenolic in feel, the 2003 packs serious energy to match its explosive personality. The combined effects of a spring frost that decimated yields and a unrelentingly hot summer combined to produce one of the most powerful young Dom Pérignons I have ever tasted. The heavy presence of Pinot (62%) is felt in the wine's volume and breadth, making it one of the most vinous Dom Pérignons in recent memory. Given its structural depth, I imagine the 2003 will drink well for many, many years. Interestingly Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy adds that the 2003 was lower in sugars than the 2002, but richer in phenolics.”

“Dom Pérignon 2003 - Tasted blind. Greenish gold. A little reduced on the nose. Light nose. A bit awkward on the palate with masses of acidity. Not that knit. Unfocused. A little jagged. 2003?”
97+/100
Antonio Galloni
“Dom Pérignon 2004 - Racy, silky and vibrant in the glass, the 2004 Dom Pérignon is all about energy. Here the flavors are bright and delineated throughout, with veins of acidity and minerality that give the wine its sense of drive. Mint, rosemary and yellow-fleshed fruits linger on the finish with the classic DP reductive overtones that are such a signature. Once again, the 2004 Dom Pérignon truly shines. The 2004 Dom Pérignon is a wine to treasure over the next thirty or so years.”

“Dom Pérignon 2004 - Tasted blind. Very minerally nose. Excellent acidity. Very well structured. Still a little bit of framework here as well as fruit. Quite a youthful wine. But broad and exotic on the nose. 2004?”
94/100
Antonio Galloni
“Dom Pérignon 2005 - The 2005 Dom Pérignon is lifted and precise throughout, with a classy, understated personality to match. Pear, apple, mint and white flowers are laced together in a finely-knit fabric of pure class. Two thousand five was a challenging vintage because of rot issues, especially in Pinot Noir. As a result, the 2005 Dom Pérignon is more than 60% Chardonnay, which is quite unusual. Soft, and open-knit, the 2005 is the most complete Dom Pérignon for drinking now among recent vintages. I suspect the 2005 will also have a shorter arc of life next to some of the truly epic wines that surround it.”

“Dom Pérignon 2005 - Tasted blind. Mid gold. Intense savoury nose – more savoury than many stereotypical Doms on the nose. A little weak on the (medium) finish. But excellent aroma. Just very slightly sweet on the mid palate. Improved in the glass. 2005?”
97/100
Antonio Galloni
“Dom Pérignon 2006 - The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a beautifully balanced, harmonious Dom Pérignon that strikes an incredibly appealing stylistic middle ground. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2006 shows off fabulous intensity in a style that brings together the ripeness of 2002 with the greater sense of verve and overall freshness that is such a signature of the 2004. Bass notes and a feeling of phenolic grip on the finish recall the 2003, as the Pinot Noir is particularly expressive today. After an irregular summer that saw elevated temperatures in July followed by cooler, damp conditions in August, more favorable weather returned in September, pushing maturation ahead and leading to a long, protracted harvest. The 2006 falls into the family of riper, more voluptuous Dom Pérignons, but without veering into the level of opulence seen in vintages such as 2002.”
18+/20
Jancis Robinson MW
“Dom Pérignon 2006 - Tasted blind. Pale greenish gold. Intense youthful nose. Dense and tense. Youthful with some sweetish creaminess. Slightly chewy on the end. 2006?”
