Special Edition Five Non-Vintage Champagne offer!

We are delighted to announce we have again arranged for Essi Avellan to host our second live Instagram tasting on Friday 3rd April at 18:30 UK time 20:30 Finnish Time. Hosted by Essi in Helsinki and Nick in London. (Nick Baker Founder TheFinestBubble.com - Essi Avellan MW World’s Leading Champagne Expert)

This week we are exploring Non Vintage champagnes and looking particularly at “house style” where we have a mix of champagnes made in the reductive style where oxygen is "the enemy" during the champagne making process and then to the opposite end of the scale where they embrace oxygen, albeit in a controlled way. We will look at Houses at either end of the scale and illustrate this also with the Houses that embrace a bit of both. Essi will guide us through this with five champagnes showing how the diversity in the champagne making process effects what we taste in the glass.

Hopefully you can join us and taste along with us, with at least one of these or ideally at least two, one reductive style like Moet and Bollinger where they embrace oxygen with barrel fermentation. We have a super offer on the website when you buy all five champagnes.

We broadcast live at Instagram.com/thefinestbubble - when we are live on Instagram the TFB logo on the top left of our Instagram home page glows orange, then click on that logo and you enter the live stream with Essi and Nick.

Join us for our second Instagram Live champagne tasting of five Non Vintage champagnes hosted by Essi in Helsinki & Nick in London on Friday 3rd April 2020 at 18:30 UK Time.

Non-vintage is the most traditional of all Champagne styles. A blend of multiple varieties, vintages and reserve wines, the idea is to assemble a consistent wine every year. Minimum ageing for non-vintage Champagnes is 15 months, although in reality most are cellared on the lees for 3 years.

Bollinger Special Cuvée NV: Bollinger allow their non-vintage to mature for three years, which is twice as long as required, as they believe that great champagne needs time to develop its full character. A golden colour with a beautifully fine mousse. The nose is aromatic and complex with ripe fruit and spicy aromas. On the palate, rich apple and peach notes burst through. Hints of brioche and fresh walnut linger on the lasting finish to enhance this powerful Special Cuvée.

Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve NV: To achieve the depth and complexity of the House style, Charles Heidsieck then age their non-vintage for a further three years after disgorgement, again much longer than the legal requirement of just fifteen months. Pale gold with fine and persistent bubbles, this has wonderfully complex aromas of ripe apricot and almond. On the palate it's extremely creamy, rich and fresh and also surprisingly nutty - likely a consequence of the age and high percentage of reserve wines. This is without doubt one of the best non-vintages around.

Louis Roederer Brut Premier NV: A culmination of wine from eight different harvests. Fine bubbles and a nose of fresh fruit and hawthorn. The inclusion of reserve wines gives it the complexity and roundness characteristic of Louis Roederer champagnes. Smooth, complex palate mingling flavours of apple and pear with blackberries, raspberries and cherries. This is a structured and elegantly mature wine, lively on the mouth with a smooth palate.

Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial NV: First introduced in the 1860s, Brut Impérial NV is an assemblage of over two hundred crus with around 20-30% carefully selected reserve wines added to complete the prestige blend. The colour is a golden yellow with fine bubbles. On the nose fresh fruits combine with citrus notes of lemon and orange. On the palate more citrus flavour show through with great balance. The mid-palate opens to a focused flavour of refreshing acidity. A very clean finish with impressions of white peach.

Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label NV: Chef de Caves Demarville uses as much as 25 to 40% reserve wines to ensure the continuity of the House style. This has a fine bead of bubbles present with a golden yellow colour. On the nose: white fruits and nicely balanced citrus notes. On the palate: the Pinot Noir dominance shines through but is balanced perfectly by the delicate Chardonnay. Ripe fruits and some hints of brioche on the finish.
