Gosset 15 Ans de Cave NV

Gosset 15 Ans de Cave NV

Gosset 15 Ans de Cave NV
Founded in 1584, Gosset is the oldest winemaking House in the Champagne region. Production remained fairly low-key until 1994, when the House was sold to the family owned Renaud-Cointreau Group. This takeover saw an increased level of investment improve their vineyard management and fostered a doubling of Gosset's annual production to nearly one million bottles in just fourteen years. Owning just a few vineyards, Gosset purchase nearly all of the grapes required for production. After sixteen generations in the famous village of Aÿ, the winery has only recently moved to a larger and new plot in Épernay.

Gosset 15 Ans de Cave is the creation of previous Gosset Cellar Master, Jean-Pierre Mareigner. Cellared in 1999 and left to age for fifteen years, this cuvée is a unique blend of various different vintages. Jean-Pierre remained tight-lipped about the vintages in the blend and the assemblage still remains a secret today. Just 5,000 bottles have been produced and it is expected that only a few hundred bottles will be released to the UK market.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: 100% Grand Cru | Chardonnay: Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger | Pinot Noir: Ambonnay, Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ
Grape Varieties: 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir
Ageing: 15 years on the lees
Dosage: 7 g/l
Drink: Now for 3-4 years

Tasting Note: A very fine stream of bubbles and vivid yellow in colour. Aromas of lemon and slight biscuit notes. In the mouth, a complexity of dried fruits and honey notes fill the mid-palate. The rich and fresh fruit flavour is evident throughout the finish which is long and lingering: a great characteristic of Gosset Champagne.
Founded in 1584, Gosset is the oldest House in the Champagne region. Production remained fairly low-key until 1994, when the House was sold to the family owned Renaud-Cointreau Group. This takeover saw an increased level of investment improve their vineyard management and fostered a doubling of Gosset's annual production to nearly one million bottles in just fourteen years. Production was accelerated by the return to the beautiful old-fashioned bottles identical to the ones used by Jean Gosset in the 18th century. After sixteen generations in the famous village of Aÿ, the winery has only recently moved to Épernay and the modern ex-Malakoff cellars.

Owning just a few vineyards, Gosset purchase nearly all of the grapes required for production. The character of Aÿ has a strong influence on the House style, however the true identity of Gosset lies in the blocking of malolactic fermentation. A natural process where malic acid is converted to lactic acid, this can allow champagnes that don't tend to have fresher acidity to be more delicate and fruit-driven. Preventing this process gives the winemaking team at Gosset the chance to showcase the bright fruitiness and brisk acidity when the grapes are ripe and the quality is high - a hallmark of the House style.
Cellar Master: Odilon de Varine

Essi Avellan MW
“Deep lemon-gold colour. Distinctly evolved nose with opulent red fruit exuberance, dough and bruised apple characters of oxidative aspect. Muscular, well-built palate with firm high-acid structure. This multi-vintage is built to demonstrate the ageing capacity of a non-vintage blend, promising an ageing period of no less than 15 years in the cellar. This is the inaugural blend from 1998, 1996 and 1995 vintages, January 2015 disgorgement tasted.”

“Deep gold. Open, rich, complex nose delivering notes of orange-flavoured biscuit, stone fruits, dried fruits and gingerbread. The palate is lush yet also fresh, precise and fruit-forward. A superlative Champagne showing remarkable expression and length.”
