Description & Technical Information
The house was founded in 1798 by Memmie Jacquesson. Jacquesson is small producer based in Dizy, Champagne. Only Champagne Salon is smaller of the elite houses. Production is around 280,000 bottles per annum and are made with 78% of grapes from their own 28 hectare estate, the rest is bought in from growers. The 28ha domaine comprises 11ha in Avize and Oiry, some 13ha spread over Aÿ, Hautvillers, Dizy and Mareuil-su-Aÿ and a further 4ha in the Vallée de l'Ardre (a tributary of the Vesle, north-west of the Marne). Current owners, brothers, Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet recently changed farming methods to be organic, almost all Jacquesson wines ferment in old, large-sized oak barrels, which yield little wood aroma to the wine.

In recognition of the subtle differences between each annual non-vintage creation, Champagne Jacquesson number their non-vintage cuvée every year. Jacquesson Cuvée 744 is based on the 2016 harvest with grapes originating from Ay, Dizy, Hautvillers, Avize and Oiry. The Pinot Noir from Ay and Dizy were particularly successful in 2016. Picking started at Jacquesson on 19th September and ended on 6th of October. The dominant harvest of 2016 is complemented by the addition of 30% reserve wines from the previous three years. The champagne was vinified on the lees in oak barrels with no filtration or fining. 244,350 bottles, 9,905 magnums and 300 jeroboams were produced.

Weather: In 2016 Winter and Spring were extremely wet; mild to start with but temperatures fell at the beginning of February and remained low with some serious frosts in late April. The end of Spring was sunny but cool, followed by a Summer which was very hot and very dry. Picking began on 19 September and ended on 6th of October, including a break of several days to make allowance for some late ripening parcels.

Expert Reviews
William Kelley
“Disgorged in February 2021 with 0.75 grams per liter dosage, the NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 744 is based on the 2016 vintage. Exhibiting complex aromas of orange oil, crisp stone fruit, fenugreek and subtle hints of yellow Chartreuse, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and seamless, with terrific depth at the core, lively acids and a pinpoint mousse. Simultaneously vivid but replete with sapid nuance, this new release throws into relief all the work the Jacquesson brothers have made in the vineyards and cellar over the last two decades.”
Antonio Galloni
“The NV Cuvée No. 744 Grand Vin is a bright, taut Champagne that is going to need at least a few years to come together. This is one of the more reticent editions of the Cuvée I have tasted in a very long time. Citrus, crushed rocks and white flowers add an attractive upper register. The Chardonnay feels quite expressive today. Disgorged: January, 2021.”
Jancis Robinson
“There’s a real green vegetal energy about the nose of this. And I don’t mean it’s unripe! Very distinctive indeed with a briskness and pace that is rare in champagne. Though it’s not a comfortable pair of slippers to slip on but a dry wine that demands attention.”

Nearly two decades ago, Champagne Jacquesson redefined non-vintage champagne.
