Much tighter, fresher and leaner than the Clos d'Ambonnay 2000 once served in a decent champagne glass. Very complex and serious on the nose. Brightly fruited and finely etched. Thrilling tension. This wine was originally served in wide burgundy bowls and these made the wine taste much broader and more developed than the Clos d'Ambonnay 2000.”

“This wine has been on a consistent rise ever since its launch. It has taken some time for the reserved tightness to vanish but now the wine is already showing plenty of what is to come. It impresses from the first sniff onwards until its super long and intense ending. There is a searing acid line beneath ripe fruity opulence leading to a dry mineral finish. The oaky notes are now perfectly harmonized to the generous, honey and fudge toned fruitness. The wine comes together so beautifully at the end. Still holding back plenty so hold on to the bottles you have. A grand Clos du Mesnil.”

“Krug's 2000 Brut Blanc de Blancs Clos du Mesnil keeps getting better and better. The flavors are starting to develop lovely layers of complexity, while the wine is also fleshing out a bit, releasing gorgeous layers of texture. Lemon oil, jasmine, white flowers, almonds and spices wrap around the deep, resonant finish in a striking Clos du Mesnil with a bright, bright future. This was bottle N. 6617.”

“There was no heatwave in 2000 but overall the summer was quite warm. This will be the next Clos du Mesnil to be released, but actually I found it a little more generous on the palate than the 1998, even if less developed on the nose. More discreet nose but impressively introvert. Broad on the palate but still very dry on the finish. Austere at the moment but very promising.”

Krug Appoints New Chef de Cave

Champagne Krug have announced that Julie Cavil will take over as winemaking director in the new year. Incumbent winemaking director Eric Lebel will become deputy director of Krug and will lead projects involving all of the brands within the Moët Hennessy portfolio. -
