Champagne Krug Overview
+
Like Grande Cuvée, Krug Rosé is a multi-vinatge blend. A relative newcomer first released in the 1980s, Krug Rosé NV is a ground-breaking champagne: the only prestige cuvée rosé to be blended from all three different grape varieties and from such a wide range of vintages. Pinot Noirs from the best vines in Aÿ are treated to a short fermentation on their skins and then blended with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier fermented in small oak casks, before ageing for a minimum of six years on the lees. The proportion of Pinot Noir wine that goes into the blend is very expressive and provides unparalleled characteristic colour and spice.

Krug ID: 313045 | Each bottle of Krug Rosé NV has a Krug ID on the back label which enables you to discover the story of that very bottle. You can do so using the smartphone App or on the Krug website.

News Article: Krug Rosé NV placed first in our comprehensive Blanc vs Rosé blind tasting in May 2017 with Essi Avellan MW. Read the full write-up here.

Tasting Note: The resting time of at least six years in Krug's cellars gives this rosé its subtle bubbles and long-lasting elegance. There's plenty of fruit - raspberry, blackcurrant and hints of orange develop towards honey and citrus fruits. Krug Rosé is a remarkable Champagne which encapsulates the same creative spirit of Krug Grande Cuvée, again surpassing the very notion of vintage. One of the very best.

“ID 414068. The 21st edition. The first Krug rosé was released in 1983; proof that rosé is not produced every year. 47% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay, 16% Pinot Meunier. Based on vintages 2007 back to 2002. Disgorged 2014.
Quite deep strawberry pink. Tiny bead. Massively fruity. Explosive yet super-smooth fruit. Clearly this can age.
Drink 2016-2024”

“Dosage 6 g/l. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (9% red wine).
Orange pink colour. Really lovely vinous character with a lot of Pinot Noir earthiness as well as fresh, vivid redcurrant fruit. Quite full body, spicy finish. (RH)”

“ID 313048. The blend of 59% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay, 8% Pinot Meunier contains vintages from 2000 to 2006.
Fresh, rosy nose and really unusually substantial on the mid palate even if a tiny bit light on the end.
Drink 2010-2020”

“**Note: blended from all 3 grape varieties and from a wide range of vintages and rests at least five years in Krug's cellars after bottling** Medium rosé hue. A restrained and highly complex nose, that is not especially fruity, displays a moderate yeast character along with slightly exotic aromas of mandarin orange and Asian tea, all wrapped in an enveloping array of beguiling rose petal scents. There is very good richness with a relatively soft supporting mousse that adds to the impression of richness to the superbly complex and highly textured flavors, indeed one could aptly describe this as more wine that Champagne. As such this is indeed a sumptuous Krug rosé and as such, while this could be drunk now with much pleasure or held for further development; it is going to be extremely difficult to stay away from! In short this is stunningly good and should only serve to add to the mystique of this cuvée. I should note that while I am not always wowed by the Krug Rosé this latest incarnation is strikingly good.”

“The NV Brut Rosé is brilliant and finely-sculpted in the glass, with floral aromatics, pulsating minerality and chiseled fruit. Less austere than it can be, the Rosé impresses for its combination of tension and textured, phenolic weight. There is so much to like. This release (ID 213027) is based on the 2006 vintage. The blend is 59% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 8% Pinot Meunier. Disgorged Spring 2013.”

“Krug Rosé is an intriguing wine, something very different from the rest of the range. To me it is even surprisingly feminine for a Krug. It is all about decadent indulgence, truly gourmand in an understated style. Its best property is the satin-like smoothness and seamlessness. Subtle oaky impact on the toasty and charred nose of Burgundian tones. It, too, ages beautifully but one rarely gets the chance to admire it at maturity.”

“Based on 2006 so the current release in early 2014. Lots of Aÿ fruit, apparently. Pale slightly greyish pink. Strong Pinot Noir perfume. Unusually broad nose for a pink champagne and massive complexity. Impressive delicacy and so unlike most pink champagne. 18.5/20 points. Drink 2014 - 2019.”

“The best bottle of Krug Rosé we’ve tasted in some time, this is a glorious pinot noir, cloud-like in its raspberry and forest floor scents. It follows a chalk line of flavor, seamless and linear while the wine rolls and tumbles in precisely choreographed length. Delicate pink heaven in a glass.”

“Light onion skin color. Fresh pear, strawberry and white peach scents are sharpened by notes of orange pith and smoky minerality. Juicy, tightly wound orchard and red fruit flavors show a refreshingly bitter quality and pick up weight and spiciness with air. Shows excellent clarity and power on the finish, which echoes the mineral and orange notes. Seems quite young now but highly promising.”

“Very expressive and beautifully balanced, this is all in the details, from the palate-caressing texture to the vibrant acidity, finely meshed with flavors of black raspberry, plum, wild strawberry, candied citrus peel, honey and ground spice, accented by rich hints of espresso, treacle and pastis. Drink now through 2025.”

“Much fruitier and brighter than the Dom Pérignon style. Convincing clarity of fruit, fragrant and leafy. Just a bit short?”
