Description & Technical Information
-
Laurent-Perrier Rosé was created in 1968 by Champagne legend, Bernard de Nonancourt. Perfected at each stage of its making, Cuvée Rosé is acknowledged for its consistency and its high quality. The grapes from carefully selected plots are sorted and destemmed before vatting. The maceration, lasting from 48-72 hours depending on the harvest, helps the extraction of the colour and the development of the full aromatic richness of the Pinot Noir. The timing of maceration is crucial and legend has it that the first Chef de Cave, Edouard Leclerc, slept by the tank to stop it just in time!

When de Nonancourt launched Laurent-Perrier Rosé in 1968, he decided to present his creation in a uniquely distinctive bottle to magnify this very special cuvée. He found his inspiration in the rather stubby bottles manufactured in the time of King Henri IV, adding the monogrammed ‘LP’ shield. The packaging, which seemed very modern at the time, has gradually evolved since then.

Technical Information:

Tasting Note: Subtle, forthright and very fresh on the nose, Laurent-Perrier Rosé suggests a basketful of small berry fruits: strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, blackberries, redcurrants, and black cherries. The overwhelming sensation is one of freshness and the taste is like breathing the heady aromas of a freshly-picked basket of berry fruits - a symphony of aromas with a gently-rounded, tender finish. The result is outstanding, lovely darker red fruits dominate this easy to drink rosé and it is no wonder it has so many fans. If you can manage not to drink it and can store it in a cool place, then cellar it for several years and your patience will be rewarded.

“Beautiful deep orange and copper toned colour. Evolved, soft, toasty nose with depth. Ripe cherry fruit, gentle spiciness. Quite winey, clean fruit and evolved style. Velvety texture and really harmonious character. A consistently great effort with the maceration method. Always a delight. I have also grown to be a great fan of the magnum, which ages in a grand fashion developing great winey qualities and Burgundian notions. ”

“There are no clues about disgorgement date or base vintage on the label – I couldn't even spot a lot number – but Nick Baker of The Finest Bubble kindly provided the lot code of the current cuvée – LP53UK35219E – and managed to persuade the chef de cave to divulge the background to it. This particular cuvée of the famous rosé champagne in the flask bottle is based on 2013. It's made from Pinot exclusively from 10 of the finest villages including Ambonnay, Bouzy, Louvois, Aÿ and the house's home patch of Tours-sur-Marne. It also includes 15% of reserve wine back to 2010 and spends all of 5.5 years on the lees, much longer than most NV rosés. Disgorged in September 2019 with a dosage of 10 g/l. They cold-macerate the grapes for two to three days, depending on the year, with the aim of extracting red-berry fruit flavours specifically rather than being concerned about the colour.
Pretty deep intensity of a colour that looks like pale tomato juice. Rose-petal aromas. Pretty aggressive mousse and light tannins on the end. This is quite an assertive pink champagne. It's not going to keep quiet as you enjoy your Valentine's dinner but may do a certain amount of interrupting. Red-berry fruit certainly in evidence before the tannins. Not my personal favourite style but it's certainly true to the ordained style and a lot of care goes into making it.

“Vivid orange-pink. An expressive, spice-accented bouquet evokes fresh raspberry, orange pith, white flowers and ginger, with a hint of rhubarb adding an earthy flourish. Sappy and broad in the mouth, offering intense red fruit and bitter citrus flavors underscored by chalky mineral and white pepper notes. Rich yet lively rosé with excellent closing thrust and floral persistence.”

“Light, simple red fruit, perky and tart. Precious little flavour development on the palate though. (RH)”

“Bright orange-pink. Toasty strawberry and raspberry aromas are accented by iodine, floral oils and dusty minerals. Broad and supple in texture, with sappy red berry and blood orange flavors supported by a firm spine of minerality. Finishes spicy, silky and long, with a late rose pastille note adding an exotic twist.”

Connoisseurs Guide
“Elegant and fruity at the same time with a quick invitation from bright, pure cherryish notes and then filled out handsomely by whiffs of chalky soils and well-integrated, rich and uplifting yeast-driven scents, this wine manages to be both vigorous and layered at one and the same time. Its bubbles are insistent, finely carved and add to the early sensations of lightness and energy yet also carry the wine long into a balanced, refined finish. And its latter palate grip is exactly what one should expect from the genre. While service with light foods would be our first choice, this one has the beauty to stand alone.”

“First released in 1968. Laurent-Perrier wanted to show that rosé could be a serious wine. 100% Pinot Noir – unusually not a blend of white and red wines. Crushed for 36 hours. RS 8 g/l.
Wild-salmon pink. Raspberries, freshness, a hint of tarragon on the nose. Lacy mousse. Tart raspberries, peppery green herbs, a small but intense sweet-salty-dark-sharp note of balsamic vinegar. Juicy yet composed. Dry. (TC)”

“Shows fine balance, with a vibrant tanginess to the flavors of black currant, strawberry, licorice and candied ginger. Features a fine, creamy bead, revealing a lasting note of smoky mineral on the finish. Drink now through 2018. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.”

“Very pretty pale salmon. Extremely, exuberantly fruity (as opposed to fine). This comes in the smartest conceivable pink box. Dead classy. Suggestions of strawberries. Nice level of fizz but not one of the most sophisticated pink champagnes in my view.”
