Description & Technical Information
-
Every Grand Vintage is unique and original, the Cellar Master's interpretation of the singular year that is produced. The Möet & Chandon Grand Vintage spirit is founded on three essential values: Freedom of interpretation, selection of the year's most remarkable wines and individuality of the vintage. Moet & Chandon 2012 is the 74th Grand vintage produced.

Weather: The 2012 weather has been hallmarked by many as very challenging but has created some stunning Champagne. Relatively low yields due to various weather conditions throughout the year. The winter months brought some frosts and hail which damaged the early stages of bud burst. August and September were very warm and this helped rescue and give the grapes a stunning maturity.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: Predominantly Grand & Premier Crus
Grape Varieties: 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, 26% Pinot Meunier
Disgorged: 2018
Ageing: 6 years on the lees
Dosage: 5 g/l
Cork: Mytik Diam Technological
Drink: Now to 2025+

Tasting Note: Hints of white flowers and sweet pastry. A supple and soft-textured champagne, its initial sweetness gives way to a more structured acidity. A persistent finish reveals zesty notes of pink grapefruit and peaches.

Antonio Galloni MW
“The 2012 Grand Vintage is a very pretty, high-toned Champagne. Surprisingly nervous for this radiant vintage, the 2012 is going to need a bit of time to be at its best. Some of that may be attributable to early release of the 2012, which was bottled after only five years on its lees rather than the more customary seven or so because the house did not bottle either a 2010 or 2011 Grand Vintage, and the necessities of the market are what they are. Lemon confit, white flowers, and mint gradually open up in the glass. This is an especially taut style for the Grand Vintage, which is usually creamier and more open-knit in the early going. The blend is 41% Chardonnay, 36% Meunier and 33% Pinot Noir. Dosage is 5 grams per liter. Disgorged: February, 2018. ”

“More Meunier than usual, with 26%, also 41% Chardonnay and 33% Pinot Noir. Disgorged February 2018. They also specify this date and the dosage on the back label nowadays. For a long time they didn’t claim the Extra Brut category but since the 2009 vintage they have printed Extra Brut on the front label.
Really quite a rich nose with very light smokiness. Then very bright fruit with tangerine notes on the nose and then strong acidity. Very punchy and nice dry finish, 5 g/l.”

“12.5% alcohol. 41% Chardonnay, 26% Pinot Meunier, 33% Pinot Noir. Dosage 5 g/litre. Disgorged February 2018. The 74th release from this house. Lovely finesse here. Fruity with sweet citrus and pear notes, as well as some ripe peach and apricot hints. This has depth and generosity, and it’s really accessible, but there’s also some fine toast and bread complexity, and fine nuttiness. There’s a touch of nougat, too. Finishes long and fresh with a lemony tail. It’s rare that Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier are this high in the blend, but they work well here with the relatively low dosage.”
