Description & Technical Information
-
In 1947, seven well-established and visionary winegrowers came together in a joint quest for ultimate perfection and founded Champagne Palmer & Co. The founders bought the cellars of a Champagne House in Reims in 1959. Over the years, the cooperative has spread past Reims and now owns an impressive 450 hectares of vineyards, over 200 of which are classified Grand and Premier Crus. Uniquely, Palmer are one of the only producers to ferment all champagnes in the bottles they are sold in. In 2015, their range underwent a name change, to now include the term Réserve, which better represents their long ageing periods and inclusion of reserve wines.

Palmer ID: L20204 | Each bottle of Palmer & Co can be identified by the ID on the back label. This enables you to discover the story of that very bottle. You can do so using the smartphone App or on the Palmer & Co website.

Palmer Blanc de Blancs is created from Chardonnay grapes sources mainly from the magnificent terroirs of Villers-Marmery and Trépail. The fruits from these two terriors are blended with Chardonnay from Côte de Sézanne. Although not stated on the label, each Palmer Blanc de Blancs NV released is entirely a vintage with no reserve wines.

Weather: The weather in 2008 began unremarkably with a mild winter, plenty of rain and patches of frost. The early summer spells were relatively cold which delayed flowering. However, prolonged August sunshine saw long, hot days combine with cooler nights to produce grapes of perfect acidity and ripeness. A harvest that is only just emerging on the market but is already being compared to 2002, this is sure to be one of the vintages of the decade.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: 90% Premier Cru: Trepail & Villers-Marmery, Montagne de Reims | 10% Autre Cru: Côte de Sézanne
Grape Varieties: 100% Chardonnay
Vintage: 2008 - This is all from 2008 harvest, Palmer just don't declare the year on the label
Lees ageing: 11 years
Disgorged: 25th February 2020
Bottling date: 3rd July 2009
Dosage: 7.8 g/l
Drink: Now for 10+ years

Tasting Note:There is the obvious power of fruit typical in the 2008's, lovely density of citrus fruits with underlying tropical notes of pineapple and mango. The long lees ageing gives a broadness to the palate, lovely refreshing acidity make the power of the year seem very light and there is underlying chalky character on the finish. Super silky and delicate on the finish.
