- Champagne Pascal Agrapart Current & Past Cellar Masters
Produced from old-vine Grand Cru parcels in Avize, Cramant, Oger, & Oiry, Pascal Agrapart’s Champagnes are benchmarks for terroir-focused winemaking in the Côte des Blancs. Organic-minded farming, indigenous yeast fermentations, ageing under cork, and very low dosage preserve the depth, salinity, and mineral precision that define the estate’s style. 100% Chardonnay sourced from two vineyard blocks in Avize and Cramant with the same geological profile.
Champagne Pascal Agrapart is one of the most highly regarded grower-producers in Champagne, based in the Grand Cru village of Avize in the Côte des Blancs. The family estate dates back to 1894 and has remained family-owned for five generations, with Pascal Agrapart taking over leadership in the 1980s. Unlike the large Champagne houses that source fruit from across the region, Agrapart works exclusively with estate-grown grapes, producing wines that are deeply rooted in the character of their vineyards and the chalk-rich terroir of the Côte des Blancs.
The domaine farms around 12 hectares across prestigious Grand Cru villages including Avize, Cramant, Oger, and Oiry, with a strong focus on old-vine Chardonnay. Pascal Agrapart is known for his meticulous vineyard work and low-intervention philosophy, using indigenous yeasts, long lees ageing, and minimal dosage to create wines of purity, minerality, and precision. Many fermentations take place in older oak barrels, adding texture without overpowering the wines’ freshness and site expression.
Today, Agrapart is considered a benchmark producer within the grower Champagne movement, admired for terroir-driven cuvées such as Terroirs, Minéral, and L’Avizoise. The wines are celebrated for their tension, elegance, and aging potential, while the estate continues to balance tradition and craftsmanship with a quiet, uncompromising approach to quality.
Always a vintage champagne, this cuvee comes from two selected vineyard blocks (Champ bouton in Avize and Bionnes in Cramant) with the same geological profile. A thin layer of soil barely covering the chalk.
Weather: The 2019 growing period posed many challenges following budbreak in early April, which brought severe spring frosts that took their toll on the vineyards. Early summer was variable, with powdery mildew becoming a serious threat. The summer season saw two heatwaves in June and July, with a record-breaking temperature. As a consequence, scalding destroyed some 10% of the expected harvest. The warm and sunny weather continued throughout August and September, bringing concentration and richness. Cool nights were crucial in helping the grapes retain their fresh acidity. Chardonnay was more problematic in 2019, due to its susceptibility to powdery mildew. A slightly smaller crop was picked, commencing September 2nd. On paper, the potential alcohol level was slightly up from 2018 and the acidity a little higher, thus the balance looks excellent. Initial tasting confirms good tension and fine purity in the wines.

Tasting Note: Minéral has turned out beautifully, unfurling from the glass with notes of orange peel, yellow apple, peach, and mirabelle plum. It is full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with a layered, ample and textural palate that exhibits a rich core of fruit and ripe yet racy acidity. Charming in profile, this is one of the more generously structured renditions of the cuvée on record - Tasted by Kristaps Karklins

“The 2019 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Minéral Grand Cru is fabulous. All it needs is time to unwind. Readers should be in no rush. Bright and packed with energy, the 2019 is so classy right out of the gate. Vibrant and intensely mineral, the 2019 is very closed in on itself. That won't be a problem in a few years' time, but for now, the Minéral is a wine for the cellar. Extended saline-inflected notes punctuate the sculpted finish, adding to the wine's alluring personality. Minéral, a blend of old-vine sites in Avize and Cramant, is slow to emerge, but it's a Champagne that rewards cellaring. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 2025; multiple disgorgements throughout the year.”
