Produced from old-vine Grand Cru parcels in Avize, Pascal Agrapart’s Champagnes are benchmarks for terroir-focused winemaking in the Côte des Blancs. Organic-minded farming, indigenous yeast fermentations, ageing under cork, and very low dosage preserve the depth, salinity, and mineral precision that define the estate’s style. This outstanding champagne comes from 60yo vines in the lieux-dits of Les Robarts and Les Gros Yeux on the Avize hillside, shows super chalky texture & brisk minerality.
Pascal Agrapart is one of the most highly regarded grower-producers in Côte des Blancs, based in the Grand Cru village of Avize. The family estate dates back to 1894 and has remained family-owned for five generations, with Pascal Agrapart taking over in the 1980s. Unlike the large Champagne houses that source fruit from across the region, Agrapart works exclusively with their own estate-grown grapes, producing wines that are deeply rooted in the character of their vineyards and the chalk-rich terroir of the Côte des Blancs.
The domaine farms around 12 hectares across prestigious Grand Cru villages including Avize, Cramant, Oger, and Oiry, with a strong focus on old-vine Chardonnay. Pascal Agrapart is known for his meticulous vineyard work and low-intervention philosophy, no chemicals used and fermentations with indigenous yeasts, long lees ageing, and minimal dosage to create wines of purity, minerality, and precision. Many fermentations take place in older oak barrels, adding texture without overpowering the wines’ freshness and site expression.
Today, Agrapart is considered a benchmark producer within the grower Champagne movement, admired for terroir-driven cuvées such as Terroirs, Minéral, and L’Avizoise. The wines are celebrated for their tension, elegance, and aging potential, while the estate continues to balance tradition and craftsmanship with a quiet, uncompromising approach to quality.
This outstanding champagne comes from 60yo vines in the lieux-dits of Les Robarts and Les Gros Yeux on the Avize hillside, where there is a thin layer of clay over the chalk. The fermentation in bottle is carried out under natural cork rather than capsule, with a minimum of five years on lees. There is a notable step up in quality with Avizoise which has a dense, rich style and complex flavours.
Weather: The year 2018 seems to symbolize a significant climatic tipping point. After a rainy winter, the conditions at the start of the season were ideal for vines. The period of heat and drought was exceptionally long. Fortunately, as our Côte des Blanc plots are planted on exposed chalk, our vineyards did not suffer from excessive water stress. Note also that vines can withstand severe water stress. After a hot, dry season, there was no significant impact from mildew, powdery mildew or botrytis anywhere in sight. The harvest of this plot took place on September 1st. An extremely early vintage. A very healthy and generous harvest.

“Aged entirely in 600-liter barrels and, for the first time in the history of this cuvée, released without dosage, the 2018 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Avizoise is nevertheless the most demonstrative vintage wine in Agrapart’s cellar. Crafted from two plots in Avize (Les Robarts and Les Gros Yeux), located just 30 meters from each other and defined by deep, clay-limestone soils, it’s more giving and demonstrative compared to Minéral. Opening in the glass to reveal scents of walnut, pastries and ripe orchard fruit, it is full-bodied, ample and layered with excellent concentration, bright acidity and a long, sapid finish. Les Gros Yeux is one of the plots Agrapart farms with horse, to avoid soil compaction. With Ambroise now in charge of this historic domaine, style remains the same, but he undeniably refines the work.”

“While the Minéral cuvée hails from some of the shallowest, poorest soils in Avize, Avizoise always shows some of the roundness and aromatics of the deeper soils of the Gros Yeux and Robarts parcels. It shows a little more of the heat of the year in 2018, too, with fleshy nectarine, lime and white pepper, deep and long with citrus oil yet retaining a beguiling, papery-delicate texture that all of Agrapart's wines seem to find. For a vintage when blanc de blancs can be a little simplistic, this is full of nerve and detail.”

“The 2018 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs L’Avizoise Grand Cru is sourced from 50+ year-old vines in the Robarts and Gros Yeux lieux-dits. A Champagne of total precision, the Avizoise sizzles with energy and class. My impression is that it is still recovering from both its disgorgement a few months ago and the decision to bottle this with no dosage. There's gorgeous Côtes des Blancs tension and energy. Citrus, floral and light tropical notes build while time in the glass brings out the wine's breadth. Disgorged: May 2024.”
