Pierre Péters, one of Champagne’s most renowned growers, produces mostly Blanc de Blancs champagnes, which are rated as some of the finest produced in the region. The Domaine is based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger consisting of 82 plots over nearly 20 hectares of sustainably-managed vineyards, sixteen of which lie within the Côte des Blancs, primarily in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, as well as the other prized villages of Avize, Cramant, Oger and Vertus. Sixth-generation owner, Rodolphe Péters took over the running of the family estate from his father, François in 2008, having been involved in the assemblage since 2000. He initiated the house’s ‘perpetual reserve’ of reserve wines in the late 1990s. A graduate in oenology and business, Rodolphe believes that “a good winemaker must listen to his raw materials,” practising minimal intervention both the winery and the vineyards.

Made from a blend of 2020 Chardonnay from top villages in the Côte des Blancs, mainly in the home village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The wine remains in tank on lees until the assemblage, the spring following the harvest, when 45% reserve wines were added to the blend. The reserve wines come from Rodolphe’s ‘perpetual reserve’ which was founded on the 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1996 harvests, though today only a small percentage of those vintages would remain in the reserve. These reserve wines are stored in a combination of large wooden barrels (foudres), concrete and stainless steel vats.

Tasting Note: The Cuvée de Réserve is pale gold in colour with a fine mousse and vivacious bubbles. The nose is expressive, lots of citrus, lemon and grapefruit and a real chunk of chalkiness and ripe pineapple. The palate has great energy and an elegant texture, with vibrant citrus, rich velvety texture and a kick of salinity on the palate. This NV always over delivers.
The Pierre Péters estate, situated in the heart of the "Côte des Blancs" in the village of Le Mesnil sur Oger, has been a family house for six generations and has produced Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagnes since 1919.

Champagne grower-producer, the wines come exclusively from their own vineyards. Their house currently operates just over 19 hectares of Chardonnay, mainly located in the communes of Le Mesnil sur Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant.

The family has developed from generation to generation, its own selection of grapes (mass selection). They have been able to maintain and age vineyards which are now 30-years old on average. Each year in respect of the environment, they adapt their cultivation methods to obtain healthy grapes so that their Champagne expresses more precisely the richness, subtlety and the elegance of the great "terroirs" of the Côte des Blancs.
Pierre Peters Through The Years

1858: Gaspar Péters, native of Luxembourg, married a Miss Doué, owner of vineyards in Le Mesnil and started operation with about 2 hectares. Like their son, Louis Joseph Péters, in addition to their breeders and merchants status, they sold their whole harvest to trading businesses.

1919: Camille Péters, son of Louis Joseph was one of the first growers of the Champagne region to decide to harvest, handle and sell bottles under his name.

1929: Despite the global crisis, Camille Péters decided to develop marketing and started to sell his production under the brand name "Camille Péters".

1930: Camille Péters acquired 2.5 hectares at a place called : "Les Chétillons".

1932: Pierre Péters, eldest son of Camille, age 12, started to attend his first exhibitions alone and to develop sales.

1944: Camille Péters died suddenly and Pierre took over operations.

1946: Release of the first vintage under the brand Pierre Péters (1944). After his mother died in 1949, Pierre supported the education of his younger sisters. For 35 years, he devoted his life to develop the brand and its vineyards in the "Côte des Blancs".

1967: Following extensive health problems, Pierre transferred the family estate to François, his second son, who ensured the development and sustainability until 2008. During these 40 years, he increased the surface area to reach 17.5 hectares and he dramatically improved sales growth in France and abroad.

2007: Rodolphe Péters, oenologist-winemaker, joined the family house after 12 years of experience in companies close to the world of wine and Champagne. He took control of the family estate in 2008 and started to focus on the winemaking tool in an even more qualitative way. He has also paid particular attention to the development of the reputation and image of the family brand in France and abroad, which now represents over 80 % of the volume of bottles shipped.

2009: Release of the vintage "Rosé for Albane". A small revolution for our family domaine which has always produced Blancs de Blancs Champagnes!

2016: Release of the vintage series "L’Etonnant Monsieur Victor". An assembly crafted with the finest of our winery… A new family story to be told.

2019: Moving to our new premises and celebration of the Domaine's centenary, on the occasion of which we are releasing an anniversary cuvée called HERITAGE: a condensed version of 19 vintages produced by 4 generations. Launch of a new plot from the place called Montjoly in Mesnil sur Oger.

“For an introduction into the range of Pierre Péters, the NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Cuvée de Réserve is the perfect choice. It's based on the incisive 2021 vintage and completed by a 50% component of the perpetual blend, aged in a variety of vessels (stainless steel tanks, large oak casks and concrete). This is the most floral wine in the range, wafting from the glass with aromas of honeysuckle, citrus fruit, acacia and beeswax. Shaped by the high-acid vintage profile, expect a bright, lightly structured Champagne laden with racy acids and a focused finish. It was disgorged in May 2024 with a dosage of six grams per liter.”

“The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru is fabulous. A Champagne of tension and energy, the Cuvée de Réserve has real presence, not to mention tons of class. Citrus, jasmine, mint and crushed rocks are some of the many nuances that race out of the glass. In this release, the Cuvée de Réserve has a light tropical quality that is both exotic and hugely appealing. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2021.”

“Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs Grands Crus of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant. Crucially this cuvée is almost based on a reserve system rather than a year, with 50% of the blend coming from Peters' perpetual reserve and the remainder from the 2019 vintage. It is in quite superb form, based on a vintage Rodolph Peters may be the best of the last 20 years. Delicate layers of fresh fruit – pear, pineapple, clementine – are far from obvious, tucked into a palate saturated with pure Côte des Blancs energy from the reserves. This remains one of the benchmark NV Blanc de Blancs, at its best with up to five years in the cellar.”

“Open, effusive and a real delight to taste. Soaring aromatics and soft curves give this 2019-base Champagne tons of sheer appeal. Apricot, tangerine peel, spice and dried flowers abound in this racy, open-knit Champagne. The Cuvee de Reserve is rarely this charming at this stage. The slightly lower dosage of 5 grams per litre works so well.”

“A more friendly, approachable wine than the Extra Brut – and more tight knit. Very fine bead and great, sappy balance between the delicate fruit and something more substantial – presumably the reserve wines. Really quite fine and rewarding with this more mature undertow beneath the particularly zesty initial impression.”

“The NV Blanc de Blancs Cuvée de Réserve is such a gorgeous wine. Bright, mineral and savory, with attractive tropical accents, the Cuvée de Réserve offers striking nuance and tons of class. This release is based on 2016, with reserve wines that go back to 1988. Partially blocked malolactic fermentation helps preserve a measure of freshness, but what impresses most is the wine’s total sense of balance. For readers who want to know what the Côte des Blancs is all about, without spending the money for an elite cuvée, this is the place to start.”

“Based on the 2017 vintage and disgorged in May 2021, the latest release of Péters's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Cuvée de Réserve continues to show very nicely. Bursting with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, honeycomb, white flowers and fresh bread, it's medium-bodied, pillowy and generous, with a refined mousse and an elegantly fleshy core of fruit. This is a fine-boned, weightless blanc de blancs that's disarmingly easy to drink.”
