Description & Technical Information
-
Pierre Peters, one of Champagne’s most renowned growers, produces exclusively Blanc de Blancs champagnes, which are generally rated as being among the finest produced in the region. The domaine is based in Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger. The domaine owns 82 plots over nearly 20 hectares of sustainably-managed vineyards. Sixteen hectares lie within the Cote des Blancs, primarily in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, as well as the other prized villages of Avize, Cramant, Oger and Vertus. Les Chetillons is the domaine’s celebrated single-vineyard. It is sourced from three parcels of old vines, which are 50 years old average with the oldest plantings dating back to 1936. Each of the three parcels from ‘Les Chetillons’ was vinified separately. The wines were fermented in stainless steel and remained in tank on their lees (with regular tastings) until the assemblage. The bottles of ‘Les Chetillons’ are turned by hand using the traditional riddling method.

Weather: 2014 was characterised by mild temperatures and frequent rainfall and a few weeks of high temperatures. On paper it looks like a very solid vintage with good ripeness and acidity. Full flowering began in June. Summer was a combination of dry, wet and cold spells. Some regions saw some disease and Meunier in the Marne Valley didn’t have a great year and some of the Pinot Noir with its thinner skin made it more difficult for the red grapes. Harvest took place from 8th to 20th September. A year where there was a need to do a lot of careful picking and sorting of the red grapes to maintain the high quality. In general Chardonnay is the star of the vintage with some super good Blanc de Blancs starting to appear on the market. There will be some good champagnes from 2014 and exceptional Blanc de Blancs.

Technical Information:

97/100
Antonio Galloni
“The 2014 Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons is fabulous. The 2014 is not as obvious as years like 2012 or 2013, but it presents a youthfully austere, classic personality that is absolutely beguiling. Readers will have to be patient here. There is certainly a lot to look forward to. The 2014 Les Chétillons is a Blanc de Blancs that sizzles with Mesnil tension and energy. Dosage is 3.5-4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: May, 2021.”
