Champagne Piper-Heidsieck Overview
+
The very first Rare Rosé. Piper-Heidsieck Rare is a truly unique prestige cuvée. In the summer of 1976, an unprecedented heatwave struck France, the likes of which the Champagne region had never experienced before. Piper-Heidwsieck's winemaking team began to wonder: could it be possible to create a cuvée given the remarkable conditions? Taming the natural forces was no easy task and when assemblage was complete and the final blend bottled, the team were so proud of the final product, they called it Rare. A testament to exceptional vintages where nature unleashes its forces, Rare cuvées are only produced in supernatural years.

Weather: Mostly a warm year, 2007 was characterised by unexpected major weather events. A warm spring was followed by a cool summer, although the end of the ripening process was excellent, with harvests taking place in ideal conditions.

“Evolved, orange-toned luminous colour. The fruitiness is deliciously sweet in a tropical genre with vanilla tones complemented but the classy, coffee and cream toastiness. There is a lovely butter biscuit and ginger complexity to the broad red fruit nose of cherries, figs and exotic spices. The palate is still youthful and sleek but impressively lacey coming with a degree of smooth vinosity. It finishes with cool crispiness, spicy minerality and a faint touch of tannin enhancing the notion of elegance. Perfectly dosed at 9,5g/l. ”
