Description & Technical Information

Although not the oldest wine estate in the region, Ruinart holds the title of the oldest established Champagne House. Nicolas Ruinart founded Champagne Ruinart in 1729.

Famed for their affinity for the white-grape variety, Chardonnay dominates the blend in all of Ruinart's finest cuvées, even their prestige rosé. Favouring the reductive style, they use a pneumatic press to guard the juice against oxidation and deploy nitrogen gas to protect the wine at every production stage. They are also adverse to oak and vinify all of their wines in stainless-steel tanks. Ruinart's Crayeres were dug by hand - the deepest measuring 38 meters in height beneath the vault - and their numerous tunnels criss-cross over a length of more than eight kilometres.

In 2020, Ruinart breaks with the tradition of individual gift boxes, and pushes its global, environmental approach further with the second skin case. Entirely recyclable cloak composed of 100% natural wood fibres.

This eco-designed casing perfectly marries the emblematic silhouette of the Maison's signature bottle with Ruinart's taste integrity, which is preserved until tasting.

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs NV is made primarily from grapes sourced in the Premier Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. This approachable, pure and creamy non-vintage contains 20-25% reserve wines from the previous two years.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: 100% Premier Cru | Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims

Ageing: 3 years on the lees

*We recommend only ordering "No Gift Box" Ruinart BdB in cases of six and not as individual bottles. Champagne in clear bottles must be stored in complete darkness and not exposed to any form of light.

Tasting Note: A pale yellow golden hue with slight luminous qualities. On the nose, fresh ripe fruits are ever present leading to a floral palate combined with peaches and hints of pineapple. This well-rounded and elegant champagne leaves hints of citrus fruits through to the long-lasting finish.

Essi Avellan MW
“Pale lemon colour. Youthful, gunpowdery mineral nose with straw, floral and lemon notes. Tart, linear, driven palate. Super lean and fresh with a succulent, fruity finish. Can be closed and muted at first but opens up to a beautiful, soft, toasty richness. The 2010 based cuvée is exceptionally good and shows remarkably in magnums. The 2011 was notably lesser whereas the 2012 based ones are opulent and caressing with generous tropical fruit. Beware of storage conditions as the clear glass allows the light to spoil it quickly.”

William Kelley
“The latest rendition of Ruinart's NV Blanc de Blancs unwinds in the glass with scents of citrus zest, green apple, white flowers and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and incisive, with a vibrant core of fruit and brisk acids, complemented by a mouth-filling mousse, it concludes with a saline finish.”
17+/20
Richard Hemming MW
“Very intense nose with sour green fruit and a strong salty note. This is very stylised and uncompromising, with loads of hard cheese and yeasty character. Not for mainstream palates, perhaps, but should satisfy most ardent fizzophiles.”

As a winemaker, Ruinart Chef de Cave Frédéric Panaïotis is excited by vintage 2018, "a year of extremes." However, as a human, he's worried about what it signifies for our changing climate. We tasted the vins clairs from this exceptional year at the house in Reims.
