Description & Technical Information
-
Originally known as Forest-Fourneaux with history dating back to 1734 and in 1932 Pierre Taittinger bought the House and the Taittinger label was born. A century of incredible growth saw Taittinger become one of the biggest producers and today is one of the last big independent, family-owned Houses. Pierre-Emmanuel retired in 2019 and was succeeded as President by his daughter Vitalie. They own 288-hectares of vineyards and the Taittinger style is the high percentage of Chardonnay. In 2017 Taittinger received two environmental accreditations: the ‘Viticulture Durable en Champagne’ (Sustainable vine-growing in Champagne) and the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE – High environmental sustainability.)

Produced each year from 95% first pressing of the grapes, this is the definitive cuvée of Champagne Taittinger. Each year the blend includes a proportion of reserve wine to ensure consistency in the House style. Prior to release, Taittinger Brut Réserve NV is aged for 3-4 years giving the wine depth whilst allowing the component parts to become fully integrated.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: 100% Grand & Premier Cru | 50% Taittinger Estate | Over 35 Crus
Grape Varieties: 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir, 25% Meunier
Ageing: 3-4 years on the lees
Alcohol: 12.5%
Dosage: 9 g/l
Drink: Now for 10+ years

Tasting Note: Renowned for its golden colour with a consistent and fine lingering mousse. The nose is light and delicate with hints of peach and brioche. On the palate it has considerable depth, yet is quite light in style with a subtle elegance and a long fresh finish. A great non-vintage brut.

“Stylish toast-complexed nose with plenty of fresh fruit, charred and gunpowdery notes. Fresh and succulent on the refined palate of fine fruit purity. Pristinely clean and full of fruit. Very long and comes with a perfectly balanced generous dosage. Elegant, light style but with emerging depth. Benefits from one to three years on cork. Recently tasted from a several years' old jeroboam and the wine was simply stunning.”

“Taittinger's NV Brut Reserve—a blend of more than 35 different vineyards, assembling 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Pinot Meunier, including 30% reserve wines—has a clear, fresh and vinous bouquet with Pinot Meunier flavors in front. Bottled in 2014 and disgorged in March 2017 with nine grams of dosage, this is a lithe and fresh but mouth-filling Brut with round and aromatic fruit. It tastes almost as charming as the Rosé Prestige yet less vinous and is rather lean and fresh. Tasted in November 2017.”

“Particularly fine and strong stream of bubbles with lots of lemon and lime notes and hints of tropical fruits like guava and pineapple and some creaminess that you don't often see in these non vintage champagnes. Nice and dry and lingering. Lovely today on a hot London day. This current cuvee must have its core part of the blend from one of the great vintages like 2010. Wish this was declared on the label.”

“Tasted blind. Overall score placed it fourth out of 12 wines. Light straw. Sweetish nose – one of the few! Candied violets on the nose. Light and off dry. Quite chunky, lime-marmalade impression. Not much undertow. Good texture and refreshment value on the finish. A little chew on the end. Lots of acidity underneath. ”
