Description & Technical Information

Taittinger produce a vintage champagne only when the harvest has been of exceptional quality. Their Brut Vintage is always a blend of juice exclusively from the first pressing of the grapes and is aged for four years in the cellars, allowing the aromas to mature slowly and the length and complexity of the wine to develop. It consists of Chardonnay from Grand Crus of the Côte des Blancs and Pinot Noir from Grand Crus of the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne. This champagne is a small parcel of 40 cases released in June 2019 and only available at TFB.

Weather: After a rainy but mild winter without any prolonged cold spells, spring arrived with some very localised frosts. Cool weather returned in June and the infrequent sunshine prolonged the feeling of freshness. The spring to autumn weather was bright with sunny spells and the long, hot days and cool nights during September gave the grapes excellent acidity during the harvest period. The 2008 vintage is fast emerging as one of the best since the renowned and now-legendary 2002.

Jancis Robinson MW
“All grands and premiers crus. 50% Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, 50% Chardonnay. Aged four years on the lees. Dosage 9 g/l.
Tasted blind. Broad nose with a bit more depth [than the 2009 tasted alongside]. Tense and vibrant. Lots of zing and citrus peel. Even lime flavour.
Drink 2018-2023”

“This wine has all the elements of greatness with the lead role given to its racy elegance. So linear and beautifully vibrant on the finely focused, long and lean palate. Plenty of stylish restraint but the wine is starting to show more toastiness alongside the cool mineral characters and citric and floral fruit profile. Still a sleeping beauty but about to wake up.”

“Taittinger’s 2008 Brut Millesimé is a powerful, bold wine. The intensity of the year has been tempered by lovely mid-palate depth and what feels like dosage that is on the higher end of the spectrum, which means Taittinger’s 2008 is more accessible now than many other 2008. Dried pear, brioche, honey, mint, chamomile and wild flowers blossom into the creamy, inviting finish. There is a lot to like. Although not especially complex, the 2008 should drink well for the next decade or so. And the 2008 Comtes? Well, it is shaping up to be epic.”
