Champagne Taittinger Overview
All the grapes used in Comtes de Champagne are grown in the 100% rated Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs of Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger and Chouilly. Only made from Chardonnay and from vintages of exceptional quality, 5% of the wines have aged for 4 months in new oak barrels, a third of which are renewed every year. Presented in 18th century antique style bottles, this hand-crafted Champagne is aged 18 metres underground in the UNESCO status Saint Nicaise cellars in Reims, for a minimum of 8 years before being released.

The 1998 vintage has taken time to evolve and is now very highly regarded, it's maturity has certainly created an exceptional wine. This is a very pale yellow colour with extremely fine and light bubbles. On the nose it is at first intense, opening with rich floral aromas giving way to discreet notes of lime and fresh pineapple. On the palate, it's very lively, with lemony flavours and hints of dried flowers and lime. This is a truly superb Champagne from a fantastic vintage; fine and elegant, but also complex and rich. The 1998 is now showing some beautiful development and its fresh acidity and abundance of fruit will see it continue to develop for many more years.

Grape Varieties: 100% Chardonnay
Dosage: 11.5 g/L

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
Antonio Galloni,
Aug 2010
“The 1998 Comtes de Champagne is a different story altogether. This is a sexy, up-front Comtes endowed with lovely richness in its fruit and open, expressive aromatics. It remains an impressive, inviting Comtes that should also continue to develop nicely in the bottle for at least another decade plus.”
Roger Voss,
Dec 2008
“Possibly the most famous Blanc de Blancs, this continues to be a yardstick. The style almost floats, a layer of bubbles that rests gently in the mouth, releasing great flavors of very crisp fruits and a texture that hovers between green apples and minerality. This is a classic.”
