Description & Technical Information

A predominance of Pinot Noir provides the structure that is so typically Clicquot, while a touch of Meunier rounds out the blend and Chardonnay adds the elegance and finesse essential in a perfectly balanced wine. Grapes from as many as 50 to 60 different Crus go into the blending of Yellow Label. Traditionally, the proportion of each grape variety used is 50 to 55% Pinot Noir, 28 to 33% Chardonnay and 15 to 20% Pinot Meunier. The reserve wine content of each new release varies depending on the quality of the latest vintage. Chef de Caves Demarville uses as much as 25 to 40% reserve wines to ensure the continuity of the House style.

Technical Information:
Grape Varieties: 50-55% Pinot Noir, 28-33% Chardonnay, 15-20% Pinot Meunier
Reserve Wine: 25-40%
Ageing: 3 years on the lees
Dosage: 10 g/l
Drink: Now to 2021

Tasting Note: This has a fine bead of bubbles present with a golden yellow colour. On the nose: white fruits and nicely balanced citrus notes. On the palate: the Pinot Noir dominance shines through but is balanced perfectly by the delicate Chardonnay. Ripe fruits and some hints of brioche on the finish. A great non-vintage.

“The non-vintage of Veuve Clicquot is in on the up. For a few years now, small amounts of wine fermented in large oak vats is being used to build further complexity to it. Soft, bready and fruity nose. Open and generous. Crisp, fleshy palate with plenty of bright fruit. Lovely acidity and succulent character. Not hugely complex but opulent and pleasurable. Worthy of cellaring by which it should develop further depth and biscuity richness. The magnums are notably superior. ”

“Magnum, base 2008 (current magnums based on 2012). QR code on back labels. (This is 85% of production, and if you include rosé, which is based on the same blend, it would be 92%!) Was launched in 2015. Disgorged early 2012; (Chef de Cave Dominique Demarville looks at the cork) probably the original disgorgement. Dosage 10 g/l. 29% reserve wines, lower than some vintages (usually 40–45%), comprising 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 and a touch of 1993. 50% Pinot Noir, 29.5% Chardonnay, 20.5% Pinot Meunier.
Hint of coconut. Some real sweetness and charm, but the magnum effect is very important. In bottle it’s unlikely to taste nearly as good. Easy to like and some real richness along with tension; the candied citrus note desired is perceptible. Just a little metallic and dry on the end. Is the fruit drying out a little?”

“Tasted blind. Came 11th out of 12 in the tasting. Pale straw gold. Light, complex nose. Good savour. Some smokiness. Really neat and tight. Lots of potential. Some appley acidity and really clean on the end. Very complex on the end. Full of vitality. One of the most youthful wines in this dozen. Delicate bead. ”

“(roughly 50% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay and 20% pinot meunier; Lot 14009913): Light gold. Musky orchard fruits and dried fig on the mineral-accented nose. Fleshy and broad on the palate, offering smoky pear and nectarine flavors and a hint of honey. Finishes on a gently spicy note, with very good cling and a touch of bitter lemon pith. Things have definitely begun to turn around for this bottling, which had been lagging behind the winery's vintage offerings for some time.”
