Description & Technical Information
-
Gusbourne is situated on a low altitude, south facing coastal escarpment and as recently as the 17th Century, Gusbourne Estate was situated on the shores of the ancient Kentish coastline. Repeated flooding of the River Rother laid down the silt soils that make up Romney Marsh, which now separates us from the sea by six miles. In 2004, Andrew Weeber took over the Estate driven by a clear vision and uncomprimising approach to producing world class, English grown, sparkling wine. The Gusbourne Estate consists of 90 hectares all own fruit, 60 in Kent and 30 in Sussex and is a publicly traded company on AIM, part of the London Stock Exchange.

Weather in 2018: Good levels of winter rainfall left the soil in optimum condition for the upcoming season. Bud burst in mid-April was followed by a period of abundant warmth and early flowering in June. In early August the fruit was thinned, and 50% dropped, to intensify flavour and concentration as well as ensure optimum quality. Warmth and sunshine from June to September meant the fruit was of an outstanding quality and picked at the perfect time.

Technical Information:
Grape Varieties: 100% Chardonnay

Dosage: 11.6 g/l
Bottling date: May 2019
Disgorged: April 2022

Tasting Note: Pale golden in colour, with a fine mousse. The nose is full of vibrant citrus and green apple character, with riper notes of nectarine and clementine. On the palate, the wine is crisp, elegant and precise. Lemon sherbet, pink grapefruit and white stone fruit dominate. There is a zesty acidity and creamy texture, which makes way for notes of toasted nuts and brioche, from extended lees ageing, leading to a long and mineral-driven finish.
