Description & Technical Information
-
Hambledon Classic Cuvée is a unique assemblage of 30% wines from 2011 and 70% tank aged reserve wines from 2010. In England, September and October 2011 were very warm and dry, producing an incredible harvest with grapes of perfect maturity. The grapes used were first pre-selected and handpicked from the estate before a second selection took place in the winery prior to pressing, ensuring only the most mature grapes went into the fermentation vats. A small percentage (2-3%) of the wines were fermented in specially selected French oak barrels to add complexity and structure.

Technical Information:
Grape Varieties: 70% Chardonnay, 20% Meunier, 10% Pinot Noir
Base Vintage: 2011
Reserve Wine: 70% from 2010
Ageing: 2.5 years on the lees
Disgorged: March 2015
Dosage: 8 g/l
Drink: Now to 2021

Tasting Note: On the nose this has vibrant scents of magnolia and lily. On the palate there is a wonderfully structured acidity and ripe, fresh fruit character. The very linear and dense body leads to a lasting finish.

Hambledon Classic Cuvée NV does not have an individual branded gift box and will be delivered in a silver gift box.

Jancis Robinson MW
“Tasted blind. Some savour on the nose and pretty frothy on the palate. Quite a bit of green-apple flavour. Clean enough but not very charming. Young. Bone-dry finish. ”

“The NV Classic Cuvée comes from chalky slopes on the evocatively named Windmill Down and comes mainly from the 2016 harvest, augmented by reserve wines, and bottled in June 2017 after a minimum of 35 months on the lees. The dosage is 4.5g/L. The voluminous bouquet displays scents of Braeburn apples, baking bread, light melon and shale-like aromas that are very harmonious and well defined. The palate is fresh with a sharp citric peel note on the entry that enlivens the senses. Taut and steelier than expected, this is a vibrant and tensile Brut whose salinity begs for some seafood to accompany it. Excellent. ”

“Tasted blind I reckoned this was a fine Blanc de Blancs – either a grower Champagne or English! Very fine, bright and lemony with lovely acidity. Pure and refined with amazing clean, sharp lines. Very fine, this is rapidly becoming an English classic.”

Tim Aktin MW
“It's chalky and dry, with subtle bubbles, hints of fresh pastry and citrus and a tapering finish: elegant, refined and understated.”
