Hambledon Vineyard Overview
+
Hambledon Première Cuvée is a blend of 85% wines from 2011 and 15% tank aged reserve wines from 2010. In England, September and October 2011 were very warm and dry, producing an incredible harvest with grapes of perfect maturity. The grapes used were first pre-selected and handpicked from the estate before a second selection took place in the winery prior to pressing, ensuring only the most mature grapes went into the fermentation vats. A small percentage (2-3%) of the wines were fermented in specially selected French oak barrels to add complexity and structure. Just 4,000 bottles of this spectacular English sparkling were produced: an exceptional wine not to be missed.

Technical Information:
Grape Varieties: 58% Chardonnay, 24% Pinot Noir, 18% Pinot Meunier

“A blend of 2011 and 2010. 58% Chardonnay, 24% Pinot Noir and the rest Meunier. Limestone is critical, they say, and their limestone 'is the same as that of grand cru champagne'. Five years on lees, dosage 8 g/l. 12% in oak, including a little bit of new. First vintage of this wine.
Pale gold. Deeply yeasty nose. Rich brioche flavours, a hint of orange flower water and apricot Danish pastry and very nice development but it just needs a little more depth of fruit in the middle to carry all those tertiary flavours. Savoury and crisp on the finish. (JH)”

“Tasted blind. Quite frothy round the edges. Some autolysis and interest on the nose. Quite aggressive acidity and dryness. Very austere. Too much like hard work at the moment but it grabs the attention as the sort of wine an English wine producer would produce if trying to make a copy of Krug without the reserves. Assertive. Long and reverberant. I think it will get there and have a long life. Drink 2017-2024”
