Nyetimber Overview
+
Nyetimber 1086 is hand-selected from the finest estate-grown wines and matured on their lees for at least five years in the traditional method. In 1086, almost 1000 years ago, the peaceful valley of Nitimbreha made its first appearance in recorded history. The estate is mentioned in the Domesday Book, the great survey of England and Wales ordered by William the Conqueror. It was coined as Nitimbreha likely referring to a newly timbered house or perhaps a small timber plantation. A deference to the rich extensive English history, the 1086 wines are therefore a homage to the estate which has been part of history for almost a millennium. Only 12,000 bottles and 850 magnums have been produced.

Weather: Temperatures in the early part of the growing season were slightly lower than average, a drier winter with less rain. Flowering proceeded in excellent conditions in late June and early July with hot and dry weather producing a large crop. August was a bit cooler and with some downpours. September was bright and sunny allowing gradual ripening, producing fine and delicate flavours.

Tasting Note: The 2010 Rose is silky and elegant on the palate, with a light pink hue. Red fruits and floral notes are present with a creamy mouthfeel. There is a great tension between fruit and structure. The finish is long and persistant. A superb English Sparkling Rosé.

“Vineyards in West Sussex. 75% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay. Five years' ageing on lees. Dosage 8 g/l. Disgorged June 2016. Mytik Diam technological cork.
Tasted blind. Pale tomato and pretty phenolic and dry. Doesn’t quite follow through. Ripe tomato aromas. Complex and off-dry. This very taut wine is a bit uncompromising.
Drink 2019-2025”

“It has an alluring colour of smoky, dusky pink. Its scented, lifted nose of pure redcurrant is arresting. The palate is slender, sleek and even a little crunchy – but aligned to the Nyetimber creaminess and fine mousse. Crisp, red apple and purest, tart redcurrant fruit shine. This is lovely now but will evolve. While both wines are great achievements, it is the rosé that proves the absolute and eminent suitability of Pinot Noir for this climate. Its fruit is brilliant and clear-cut with an aromatic hinterland and depth well worth exploring.”

“Tasted blind. Mid strawberry/pale brick colour. Neat and crisp but still embryonic. Ticks the boxes but is not (yet?) thrilling. A little astringent on the finish. English?
Drink 2019-2024”
