Description & Technical Information
-
A great Rosé champagne must be made from very ripe grapes – sometimes difficult to obtain in the Champagne climate. As a result, Louis Roederer has chosen to invest in one of the earliest Champagne crus villages, Cumières, for which the steeply-sloping, shallow clay and limestone soils face south and benefit from additional light reflected from the river Marne, enabling great phenolic maturity to be achieved. In these select terroirs, Louis Roederer applies the precision wine-making methods required to craft a saignée rosé. The Chardonnay is from the north facing slopes in Chouilly, bringing bright and fresh notes.

Weather: The 2010 harvest was marked by a very cold winter with heavy frost patches. Weather improved in the spring and early summer months with cool and consistent temperatures. However, August and September experienced awful weather with plenty of storms and humid conditions complicating the ripening process. The Pinot Noir became a fragile harvest, but the Chardonnays of the Côte des Blancs excelled.

Essi Avellan MW
“Not in the least an easy vintage, but Roederer have rescued the wine with intense sorting. Generous ripe Pinot notes with a touch of phenolics coming through backed up by a fresh kick of chardonnay with its citrus fruit zestiness. Thwere is the classic Roederer brightness and vivacity. Despite the warm year this is a wine of freshness. Superb palate structure, dosed perfectly at 9g/l. An outstanding 2010 delivering the unbearable lightness of Champagne. ”

Antonio Galloni MW
“The pale-colored 2010 Brut Rosé is wonderfully lifted and aromatically expressive. Sweet floral notes, red berries, hard candy, mint, cranberry and chalk notes grace the palate as this airy, gracious Champagne opens up in the glass. Delicate and feminine in style the 2010 is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years.”
