Nyetimber Overview
Nyetimber's Tillington vineyard is located in the middle of the South Downs National Park, on the narrow greensand strip formed during the Cretaceous Period. The geology is of prime importance here since it has determined the characteristics of the shallow soil above - excellent underlying drainage, low natural fertility - and influences the development of the vine roots. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines grow on a south-facing slope, ranging between a 5% and 10% incline to best capture the sunlight.

Weather: The 2010 vintage began with temperatures slightly lower than previous years and the colder weather was also much drier than before. Early in the season, the weather remained consistent, leading into a late spring and early summer where the buds began to flower in great conditions. The crop was large and the flavours in the grapes benefited from a slow gradual ripening process.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: Tillington
Grape Varieties: 78% Pinot Noir, 22% Chardonnay
Ageing: 4 years on the lees
Dosage: 10 g/l
Cork: Mytik Diam Technological

Tasting Note: A light golden hue. There are toasted notes on the nose that lead to hints of crème brulee. On the palate, levels of strawberry and cherry are present and this leads to a fresh finish that lingers long.

“22% Chardonnay, 78% Pinot Noir grown on a superior block of the estate's vineyards in West Sussex. Winemaker Cherie Spriggs. TA 8.4 g/l, RS 9.5 g/l, pH 2.93.
Tasted blind. Light and open on the nose. Relatively simple. Something a little like hard candy on the nose. Not much length. Is this the Krug Grande Cuvée based on 2007 (launched in November 2016)? Very embryonic. A tad sweet and simple. ”

“Pale colour with hints of sherbert and loads of citrus and lemon fruits and a slight hint of chalkiness. Great dollop of fruit on the palate cooked pear and reminds me of a cox's apple, held in the mouth for a while and you start to get some of that creaminess hints of custard; which should likely come out further with more age. Crisp acidity will make this ideal with food. Lovely long length. This top priced English sparkler is looking good with similar characteristics to those chalky and lemony champagnes that come from the premier cru village of Chouilly in Champagne.”

“78% Pinot Noir, 22% Chardonnay. Acidity 8.4 g/l, pH 2.93, residual sugar 9.5 g/l. Bottled on 1 June 2011. Riddling date 30 July 2014. Disgorged on 14 August 2014. 2009 was first vintage of Tillington. 2010 just released. Tillington exists because they're keeping sub blocks separate. Mainly Pinot which has a character they love. They like to release early to give an idea of this Pinot fruit.
A bit bony somehow on the nose. Big and bold. Lots of impact. Quite dramatic. You could drink this with food. Long undertow.”
