Taylors Overview
This 1968 is the fifth consecutive Limited Edition release of Taylor's as a 50th year anniversary of the wine. Taylor's hold one of the most extensive reserves of very old cask-aged port of any producer. These reserves include a unique collection of rare Single Harvest Ports. These ports are produced from a single year and age to full maturity in seasoned oak casks, displaying the vintage on the label. Single Harvest Ports are ready for immediate drinking and do not need to be decanted.

Tasting Note: Deep chestnut colour at the centre surrounded by a broad amber rim. A mature, opulent plum-pudding nose, intense and powerful, with all element in perfect harmony. Warm base notes of raisin and toffee mingle with a rich vanilla oakiness, aromas of walnut and marzipan and spicy hints of black pepper. The palate is round, concentrated and full of rich nutty, butterscotch flavour. Underpinning the smooth, dense texture is a finely-integrated acidity which provides an attractive freshness and lift into the long finish. A superb Single Harvest Tawny which delivers all the intense, mellow aromas of long ageing in oak casks while maintaining an attractive harmony and balance.

Presented in a magnificent branded wooden box, Taylor's Single Harvest Port 1968 is the perfect 50th birthday present.

“Taylor's continue their now-annual tradition of supplying liquid, specially packaged fiftieth birthday gifts (there won't be many other drinkable 1968s from anywhere in the world) and this tawny, with its flavours of vanilla, candied citrus and walnuts, is particularly pure and well balanced, but not cheap. Comes in a wooden gift box. ”

“Mid-deep mahogany-tinged tawny with an olive green rim; lifted and mellifluous on the nose with a glorious aroma of butterscotch which comes singing from the glass; wonderfully soft, silky creamy texture, rich and intense with a hint of toffee and butterscotch mid-palate, a touch savoury then a long fresh finish redolent of tangerine and dried apricots. Seamless from start to finish. What a wonderful way to celebrate in 2018. ”

“The nose is superb, with classic, mature Tawny nuttiness, but it is the palate which has me hooked. There is volume here with toffee, fig, walnut and wood smoke tones. It is silky, juicy and very long, too. ”
Bought directly from Taylor's through their UK agent Mentzendorff, this is currently held in bond at Vinotheque in Burton-On-Trent, where it is cellared in ideal conditions and for same day deliveries small quantities are held in our London offices in a top of the range Eurocave
