Champagne to Celebrate an 18th Birthday – Vintage 2006

Turning 18 is a truly special occasion. And one’s first (legal, let’s be honest) drink of alcohol should also be truly special: like a glass of vintage 2006 champagne. The 2006 vintage was a mixed year but Early summer was positive, with the months of June and July creating perfect conditions for flowering. Although there were some storms in late-July, the overall health of the vines was great since the weather remained hot through to the harvest with spells of rain in August promoting even healthier grapes.

Champagne to Celebrate a 21st Birthday – Vintage 2003

Another momentous birthday. The 2003 vintage was one of pre-eminence: a year like no other, defined by extremes. The vineyard was first touched by severe spring frosts that left a lasting mark on the Champagne region before being struck with an unparalleled heatwave. As a result, the crop was perfectly ripe and healthy but left a particularly small harvest: this was the hottest year since 1822.

Bollinger Brut Vintage 2003
Bollinger wanted to celebrate this astonishing year in their own way by producing a very unique and non typical wine in the lineage of Bollinger. They have blended pinot noirs from Ay and Verzenay together with chardonnays from Cuis, the houses’ 3 most historical vineyards, a trilogy for 2003. Only 50,000 bottles made.

Dom Perignon 2003
Pinot Noir fruit dominate. The first release (P1) comes approximately 8 years after the harvest and is the style that most consumers are familiar with. Dom Pérignon is only available as a vintage champagne and is only produced in exceptional years.

Dom Perignon Plenitude 2 P2 2003
The second stage (P2) takes roughly 15 years, during which time the cuvée takes a profound leap to a new quality level where it will plateau for many years in terms of improvement. P2 2003 was made Richard Geoffroy was the chef de cave and he always hailed 2003 as his “favourite” vintage, more because of the challenge of being able to make a great champagne in a year where the weather was trying hard to make it impossible. This is by far the standout champagne from 2003.

Pommery Les Clos Pompadour 2003 Magnum
Available in Magnum only. Les Clos Pompadour, is the single largest clos in champagne, some 25 hectares are nestled in within the city walls of Reims with an impressive 2 metre high wall surrounding the entire vineyard. Essi Avellan MW scored the champagne 93 with a potential of 96/100.

Champagne to Celebrate a 60th Birthday – Vintage 1964

Unfortunately, champagne from as far back as 1964 is increasingly hard to come by, however we have you covered as we have recently received these directly from Lanson cellars. They generally take on a deeper-golden colour as they age, and whilst the younger champagnes may be fresher, the rich characteristics of an older champagne can be unbeatable unless stored incorrectly. See our article on The Importance of correct Champagne storage. If you’re turning 60 this year, that means you should celebrate properly.

Lanson Vintage Collection 1964 – 75cl & 1.5L
The House of Lanson is one of a select few to possess a truly impressive collection of fine vintage champagnes. These bottles of 1964 are exceedingly rare and were shipped to us from Lanson in autumn 2023 after an astonishing 54 years on lees. At this age the bottles will have expected low pressure, with just a very light spritz but a privilege to own a bottle of such age.
