Club Oenonlogique: The Grande Marque Champagne Report 2025

Club Oenologique have released their 2025 Champagne Report alongside Essi Avellan MW.

The report spans from Non-Vintages to recent releases. Tasting notes and scores from Club Oenologique’s Champagne Report 2025 (featuring only those wines scoring 88 points and above).

Champagne Report 2025: A Year of Challenges, Triumphs and Exceptional Wines

Champagne enters 2025 amid another wave of turbulence. Uncertainty in the US market continues to weigh on an already sluggish global landscape, and the mood across the region has been cautious. Yet despite the pressure, optimism is quietly returning. The 2025 harvest has delivered excellent fruit, market conditions are beginning to stabilise, and producers eager to spark renewed interest are offering some compelling value across the board.

In tasting more than 200 Champagnes for Club Oenologique’s Champagne Report 2025, the message was clear: while the market may be unsettled, the wines themselves have rarely been better.

A New High for Champagne Quality

This year’s Report reached its highest summit yet.
Louis Roederer Cristal 2013 (magnum) earned a flawless 100 points, and an impressive 24 cuvées surpassed 96 points — a remarkable sign of the region’s strength at the top tier.

Essi Avellan MW “If Cristal 2013 is already magnificent in the 75cl format, the magnum takes the wine to another dimension of reductive finesse and slowly unfurling elegance. The bouquet is cool and precise, with crisp peach and vibrant lemon underpinned by profound layers of gunpowder and chalk. Few Champagnes capture such luminosity and purity. Beneath the seemingly weightless frame lies remarkable intensity. Thrillingly energetic and strikingly saline today, it promises a long, graceful evolution.”

Dom Pérignon Steals the Spotlight

The standout house of the year was unquestionably Dom Pérignon. I tasted eight releases, including several not yet on the market, and the quality was consistently exceptional.

  • 2006 & 2008 Plénitude 2 both scored 99 points

  • Challenging vintages such as 2010 and 2017 impressed far beyond expectations

  • The house’s extraordinary vineyard network — nearly 900 hectares across top Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages — continues to underpin its remarkable consistency

The 2010 yielded an outstanding rosé despite a rot-troubled season, while the 2017 marked Richard Geoffroy’s final creation as chef de cave. The 2018 vintage, shaped by Vincent Chaperon, shows impeccable balance and hints at a new, exciting era ahead.

Blending Mastery and Single-Vineyard Brilliance

Blended Champagnes shone this year, with standouts such as:

  • Charles Heidsieck Champagne Charlie (2nd release) — built on the finesse of 2019, layered with reserve wines from 2009 and 1996

  • Henriot Cuvée 38 — its finest release yet

  • Palmer & Co Blanc de Blancs 2013 (magnum) — an over-performer rivaling prestige cuvées and marking the welcome return of vintage labelling

Single-vineyard expressions also left their mark.
Philipponnat’s Clos des Goisses 2014 and 2016 both delivered powerful, ageworthy performances, showing just how expressive this pioneering terroir-driven style can be.

Category Highlights: Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs and Rosé

The Blanc de Blancs category dazzled, led by the elegant Dom Ruinart 2013, a fitting tribute to the late Frédéric Panaïotis.

Meanwhile, blanc de noirs continues to rise rapidly, with a standout example being Billecart-Salmon Clos Saint-Hilaire 2009 — profound depth from a cherished family plot

Rosé Champagne had a strong showing as well.
Highlights included the juicy, saline Cristal Rosé 2014. Among newer vintages, Pol Roger Rosé 2018 stood out for its joyful vibrancy.

A Region Rewarding the Curious

Despite market headwinds, Champagne in 2025 is rich with wines that inspire curiosity and reward discovery. From boundary-pushing blends to expressive single-vineyard bottlings, this is a moment of resilience, reinvention and undeniable brilliance.
