“In my 42 years writing about wine I have frequently had to pinch myself as I sit down to enjoy an array of extraordinary bottles in the name of work. One afternoon last November called for much pinching as I settled down with Olivier Krug and Nick Baker of champagne specialist The Finest Bubble for a blind tasting of every vintage of Krug made since the 1988.”
Last year, we conducted a Krug tasting the likes of which Olivier Krug himself hadn’t done since 2002: a full vertical tasting of every vintage from 1988 to 2004, including a surprise magnum
and a bottle of Grande Cuvée. Tasting them blind against each other offered a unique opportunity to assess the true quality of each special vintage, including a bottle of Krug 1988 that Oliver had selected from Krug’s cellars that morning and carried on his Eurostar journey to London.
