Wednesday 21st June – Champagne Range Tasting at Frederick’s, Islington. Since the previous tasting in March there have been a few noticeable releases that we were determined to let our guests taste. The most recent and probably most favoured on the evening was Krug Grande Cuvée NV 164eme Edition (2008 base). We have also recently added Palmer & Co 2008 and Bruno Paillard Brut 2008 to our array of superb champagnes; this was the first time we have had these two at one of our tastings and the Palmer & Co 2008 really shone. We did have a surprise nearer the end of the tasting and if you were lucky enough to be in the vicinity of the Piper-Heidsieck table you will know that a Rare 1998 magnum was opened. To the delight of all who tasted, the magnum was stunning.
Frederick’s once again provided delicious canapés, well received by the tasters. On the hottest day of the year so far, a tepid 34 degrees, a glass or thirty five (if you managed to get round to them all) was the perfect accompaniment.
If you would like to join us at the next tasting then we have confirmed two more dates in the Autumn and Winter; Wednesday 20th September and Wednesday 8th November. Thank you for coming and enjoying the evening with us, we hope to see you again soon.
