Without question, one of the most extraordinary evenings in recent memory. Krug partnered with renowned British composer and pianist Max Richter to take us on a transcendent musical journey. In truth, it felt less like a concert and more like stepping onto another planet, an entirely different atmosphere, meticulously crafted for total immersion and a tasting experience unlike anything I’ve encountered. The celebration brought together three parts of their 2008 vintage, firstly the focussed Clos d’Ambonnay 2008, a full PinotNoir experience, the barrel fermentation brings a touch of oak spice to an already muscular champagne. Richly focussed! Second was the Krug 2008, classically Pinot Noir dominant (53% Pinot Noir, 22% Chardonnay, 25% Meunier) the #Chardonnay gives it even more freshness and rich textural experience. The 2008 still feels like its laser focus is only just easing and its drinking window is perhaps only now beginning, but keep it another 5 years for more reward! The full orchestration of course was Krug #GrandeCuvee 164th Edition which is 68% from 2008 with 32% from 11 older vintages of reserve wines. This edition was drinking the most beautifully on the night bang on for its drinking window for the next 10 years.
Please take a moment to enjoy my highlights.
