Tasting Taittinger Brut Vintage 2006 in Magnum

Taittinger produce a vintage champagne only when the harvest has been of exceptional quality. Their Brut Vintage is always a blend of juice exclusively from the first pressing of the grapes and is aged for four years in the cellars, allowing the aromas to mature slowly and the length and complexity of the wine to develop.

The 2006 vintage was a year of mixed weather. It began with a rainy spell and late spring, but with little or no frost in the vineyards. Early summer was positive, with the months of June and July creating perfect conditions for flowering. Although there were some storms in late-July, the overall health of the vines was great since the weather remained hot through to the harvest with spells of rain in August promoting even healthier grapes.

This Champagne is crafted exclusively from 100% Grand and Premier Cru vineyards, with Pinot Noir sourced from the Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, and Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. The blend is an equal composition of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, creating a harmonious balance of structure and elegance. Aged for four years on its lees, it develops added depth, complexity, and a refined texture, while a dosage of 9 g/l provides a well-balanced finish.

“Deep lemon colour. Layered, deep red fruit nose with a beautiful toasty overtone and leesy influence. Highly fruity, rich, muscular palate. Long and intense but quite obvious on the palate for the time being. ”
