Fèlsina Berardenga is a 470-hectare estate northeast of Siena, in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga on the southern border of Chianti Classico. Fèlsina epitomises the powerful style of southern Chianti, where their wines are stylistically more akin to those from Montalcino than their fellow Chianti producers Fontodi or Isole e Olena. Giuseppe Mazzocolin ran the estate from the end of the 1970s until 2011. He is now less involved in the day-to-day management, while consultant oenologist Franco Bernabei heads up the winemaking team.

Olive Groves: There are three separate "grove units"(Boschi, Fèlsina, Pagliarese), each with distinctive soils and weather, and three different terroirs for each olive variety. The olive groves cover 47.2491 hectares, totalling 6,923 trees.

Harvest: After a difficult harvest in 2023, followed by a very mild winter, the 2024 season started with exceptionally abundant flowering in May despite rainy conditions that lasted until early June. A dry, hot summer followed without disease pressures or pest-related issues, ensuring that the olives were perfectly healthy. The harvest began mid October and is currently looking abundant, with excellent quality. However, the resa is currently around 10%, meaning oil yield from the fruit is currently quite low, though this may improve as we approach December when the harvest is expected to finish.

Production: The olives were hand harvested just as they began to turn colour (veraison), the ideal moment for optimal quality of the oil. They were immediately transferred to the pressing facility, which began no more than 4 hours after harvesting. Oil was only extracted from the pulp and was stored in stainless steel blanketed by nitrogen or argon to prevent oxidation and was bottled under vacuum.
