Join us for a 2002 vs 2008 champagne masterclass hosted by the queen of effervescence, Essi Avellan MW. Essi will be guiding us through a range of vintage and prestige cuvée champagnes from six different houses. As more and more spectacular champagnes from 2008 are released, our fascination with the "two best vintages of the century" has steadily increased.

In 2017, we conducted a blind tasting comparison of 23 vintage champagnes from 2002 and 2008 with Jancis Robinson MW. Scoring from this event showed how remarkably close these vintages are in terms of superior quality, with the 2002s just about topping the scoreboard. Since then, there has been a plethora of 2008 releases, including Bollinger La Grande Année, Dom Pérignon and Louis Roederer Cristal, warranting a rematch with the best that 2008 has to offer.

The tasting will take place in the Lutyens Room at 67 Pall Mall, in an informal but seated arrangement with the champagnes brought to the table. We will taste blind and guests will have the opportunity to use our live scoring smartphone app. There will also be plenty of time for a roundtable discussion.
