One of our most amazing tastings in the ten years we have been doing these is with Champagne Pommery looking at their two prestige cuvee’s with vintages stretching all the way back to 1980! Co-presented by TBC and Clément Pierlot the Cellar Master.

The champagnes of Clos Pompadour, the single largest clos in champagne, 25 ha of walled vineyard all within the city of Reims, over the top of the deep chalk cellars, planted mostly in the 60’s with predominantly chardonnay. With the first vintages only being made in 2002 (technically a NV, but all 2002) and a preview of the upcoming 2005 this is the new entrant to champagnes from a Clos and what better to discover; it is only made in magnums! The champagne shows real fruit concentration, with a core of chalky salinity and a hint of #MagnumEffect and I hope many of you enjoy this discovery.

Cuvee Louise was first produced in 1979, always a blend of three villages, Chardonnay from Avize and Cramant and Pinot Noir from Ay. Our tasting will be the very best experience because all are from magnum, starting with 1980, two exceptions 1988 in Methuselah and 2003 in Jeroboam! Cuvee Louise 1995 in magnum is also a re-release and this will be the very first taste outside of the winery.

For the full Louise experience we are tasting the last four vintages of the exceptionally rare Cuvee Louise Rose, often only 1-2000 bottles are produced and when the Maison hold back library stock of upto 1000 bottles, very little makes it to the market!

To ensure the very best experience all the champagnes are ex-Pommery in Reims, shipped from their cellars in September 2023 (Thank you Clément)

Clément Pierlot - He joined Champagne Pommery in January 2004, at 24, responsible for managing their vineyards and in 2010 became part of the tasting team, since 2014 he has been in charge of the oenological product development and took responsibility for the sparkling wine Louis Pommery produced in England.

In 2017 he succeeded Thierry Gasco and was appointed cellar master and became Pommery’s 10th Cellar Master. As vineyard manager he evolved their farming practices for a more ecological approach and could now apply this knowledge within the winery. Clément is also responsible for the house's sparkling wine production in California, England & South of France.

One of Clèment’s first achievements as Cellar Master was to introduce a new champagne range, Apanage showcases single varietals, made in a lightly reductive style that promotes freshness and precision.
