Wednesday 21st November 2018 - Aperitif 18:30 Tasting begins 19:00 & Finishes at 21:30
Presenter: Jancis Robinson MW
Location: 67 Pall Mall

Essi Avellan MWWe believe there is great value in Non Vintage Champagne, especially in magnums and this tasting will put that theory to the test! The challenge; does a magnum of NV taste as good as a bottle of vintage? We have eight pairs of NV champagne in magnum alongside the latest Vintage champagne from the same House in bottle. Tasting blind with us all and sharing her insights Jancis Robinson MW, the world's leading wine journalist, author, presenter and critic will direct us through the evening.

We have always championed the drinking of champagne from a magnum rather than a bottle. If you have been lucky enough to attend any of our previous tastings you will notice this is a theme we like to put to the test. You will be able to rate each champagne on our own live scoring app on your phone or tablet and we will present the stats of your voting as we go through the night.

Seventeen Champagnes to taste:

Bollinger Special Cuvée NV   vs  La Grande Année 2007 75cl
Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve NV 1.5L   vs   Brut Millesime 2006 75cl
Krug Grande Cuvée 163rd Edition NV 1.5L   vs   Vintage 2004 75cl
Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée NV 1.5L   vs   Vintage 2007 75cl
Louis Roederer Brut Premier NV 1.5L  vs   Brut Vintage 2009 75cl vs Cristal 2008 75cl
Möet & Chandon Brut Imperial NV 1.5L   vs   Grand Vintage 2009 75cl
Pol Roger Brut Reserve NV 1.5L   vs   Brut Vintage 2009 75cl
Taittinger Brut Reserve NV 1.5L   vs   Brut Vintage 2012 75cl

A magnum of non-vintage usually is only twice the price of the bottle equivalent which just adds to the benefits of drinking from magnums. Since magnums are always aged on the lees for a few more years than the standard bottle size, the current release of bottle and magnum non-vintage is not always from the same base vintage.

However, the Champagne fanatics amongst you may notice that many of the above Champagnes are new, or even yet to be released. This tasting will therefore be a unique opportunity to not only be amongst the first to taste some exceptional newly released vintages, but also to discover just how great non-vintage magnums are.

The handpicked selection of Non-Vintage and Vintage Champagnes will be tasted in pairs. The brand will be revealed, but guests will not be told which is the Non-Vintage and which is the Vintage Cuvée. Live voting will allow guests to decide on a preference and a competition will be taking place throughout the evening to ascertain who can correctly identify the most ... prizes will be awarded!
